The projects had been announced by Nawaz earlier in the year. The Punjab Government has also agreed to work on a power plant in Port Qasim. To track progress on these projects, Nawaz issued directives for establishing a dedicated Project Management Office (PMO).
Chairing a high level meeting on Energy attended by Federal Minister for Water & Power Khwaja Asif, Federal Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbassi, Federal Information Minister Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, Minister of State for Water & Power Abid Sher Ali and Special Assistant to PM Dr Mussadiq Malick, Nawaz was briefed about the status of various power projects in the country.
The country will face an energy crisis during the winter months with gas supplies set to drop and increase shortages to many sectors. The government has already announced that gas supply to the CNG sector in Punjab will remain shut for three months November through January.
Nawaz was briefed about the progress on Neelum-Jehlum and Nandipur power projects. He was also informed that a coal based power project with the help of Asian Development Bank is being started in Jamshoro and is expected to be completed in two years time.
He was further briefed that other power projects, including wind energy projects of 2000 MW are expected to be completed by 2016, CASA project of 1000 MW by 2017, Terbela-V extension project by 2017 and development of 1000 MW power project at Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park.

No. I just researched it. The money for Tarbela is coming from the Chinese and the World Bank. The Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park is the same. The Wind Projects are from foreign investors. The U.S. also signed an agreement as well. For CASA-1000 the World Bank is financing it.
So....from where the money will come? Do we see who is going to build those plants ? Govt? ADB? Private investor? what is their capcaity, and levellised terrif? or these will be built in the air before we get any single watt of light? or this is just another big ticket scam like Lahore Karachi Mototrway and TransAsia Europe rail serivce?
"He was also informed that a coal based power project with the help of Asian Development Bank is being started in Jamshoro and is expected to be completed in two years time." He was misguided, the above statement is repeated when ever Energy Meeting is held and I'm hearing the story since 6 months but actually the Asian Development Bank has not accepted the loan yet... I am so surprised to see that @main Pakistani is criticizing the project without knowing that Gadani and Thar Coal are two different projects. They got approved after Environmental studies. FGDs will be installed for emissions !
Strange people never bother to study but always ready to abuse gov's good initiatives.
@ali ahmed: @Main Pakistani:
bhai hydro power plant need 7~10 years for construction. You are ready for this ????> Blockquote
@Main Pakistani:
You are so dumb you don't even know thar coal and Gadani are two different projects.You don't even know FGDs will be installed to maintain air quality of Karachi. Please try to read something before you comment.
"He was also informed that a coal based power project with the help of Asian Development Bank is being started in Jamshoro and is expected to be completed in two years time." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ the trick is to never mention any dates:)!.
@Khurram Awan,
Yeah they should drink water from the nearby river. Also, the parliament should be transformed into a series of tents along the river so that the country could save a bit of money.
Nawaz says "Let there be light"... and so there will be darkness.
@Khurram Austerity is when Nawaz cabinet is only of 28 Ministers & Advisors whereas previous cabinet was of 90 members. Austerity is when Nawaz travels by Commercial airlines as compared to previous governments which used chartered ones. Austerity is when Nawaz ministers have zero protocol like nisar,asif,abbassi,sher ali,ayaz sadiq,parvaiz rasheed as compared to last who had a ton of cars with each minister...if this aint austerity then what is?
@Khurram Awan: What a observation.now pennys also matter.NS should drink tap water for small minded people????
thermal power plant is not the solution....we need hydro plant for generation of electricity
@Khurram Awan: These creatures only come here in Pakistan to RULE, when they don't have any one to rule (they are not in govt.) they go in their Luxurious Mahals (palaces) in Dubai, S Arabia, Europe.
Where is the Sind environmental agency and NGOs. It has already been reported in the press that coal fired plants in Gadani will further deteriorate Karachi's air quality. Can somebody stand us to save our air?
Nawaz was also calling for austerity and strong measures for the economy but look at the above picture. All of the ministers only drink mineral water and that too from the expense of Tax payers money. It seems austerity is only for the Poor of Pakistan as none of the Ministers and Generals have changed their lifestyle at all. I will suggest the public to force Nawaz and his cabinet to live without Air Conditioners, luxury cars and to drink tap water so they will realize the plight of the Ordinary Citizens of Pakistan.
