BAHAWALPUR:

Additional Sessions Judge Allah Bakhsh Khan on Friday sought a report from Bhong police by September 28 on a case in which a jirga in Sadiqabad is reported to have ordered a man and a woman executed for alleged illicit relations.

The court was moved by Habib Ahmad, an uncle of the accused man.

Ahmad said two months ago his nephew, Waheed Ahmad, was accused by Alam Sher, a resident of Sadiqbad, of having illicit relations with his wife. He said Sher divorced his wife and called a jirga on September 15 without seeking the consent of Waheed or his family. He said the jirga declared Waheed and the woman guilty of adultery and ordered that both be executed.

Ahmad said his own life was in danger as the jirga members were asking him to produce his nephew and threatening him with ‘consequences’ of non-compliance.
