Dilip Kumar, the last surviving actor from Bollywood’s Golden Age, was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital on Sunday evening after he complained of uneasiness. Doctors later diagnosed the illness as a heart attack. The veteran has been under observation and was doing well, till rumours such as ‘he has passed away’ and ‘he is very sick’, started surfacing. This has angered his friends and loved ones.

“He is better and his health is improving steadily. He is still in the ICU, but he is fine now,” Kumar’s close friend Udaya Tara Nayar said, according to IANS. He urged people to stop spreading false news about Kumar, one of the greatest actors of Indian cinema.

Ever since the Devdas star has been hospitalised, a number of reports have falsely pronounced him dead.

“For the past few days, I have been getting some negative news. Please stop spreading these kinds of dirty rumours,” said Nayar. He added that the 90-year-old’s wife and yesteryear actor Saira Banu has constantly been by her husband’s side during this trying time.

“Saira has been such a great human being; she is always by his side and praying for him. She does so much for him, she is such a good wife and she has a lot of self-confidence,” he said.

According to NDTV, Banu said, “He has to overcome the problem and it will take some time. But he is recovering. This morning, he got up and had tea. He needs to rest.” She added, “I thank all the fans and well-wishers for their prayers and request them to continue with it. He will be home soon.”

Kumar was born as Muhammad Yusuf Khan on December 11, 1922 in Peshawar (now in Pakistan) and his acting career has spanned over six decades and includes over 60 films such as Bhata, Mela, Naya Daur, Tarana, Ganga Jamuna, Leader and Mughal-e-Azam.
