The Lahore High Court on Thursday summoned an inquiry report into the measles epidemic in the Punjab this year.
The inquiry was conducted by a three-member committee headed by Dr Zafar Iqbal, the principal of Shaikh Zayed Hospital.
Justice Muhammad Khalid Mahmood Khan directed a provincial government law officer to submit the report by September 6.
The court was hearing a petition demanding action against those responsible for the measles outbreak, which resulted in hundreds of deaths across the Punjab this year.
The petitioner’s counsel had asked the court to direct the government to produce the report. He argued in the petition that the government was culpable for the deaths in the epidemic, as it had not conducted a vaccination drive for three years and had not kept the vaccine in stock.
