Crime ring busted: Five suspects including two students arrested

The accused were allegedly involved in robberies and other crimes.

HARIPUR: The police on Thursday claimed to have arrested five suspected criminals, including two students of University of Haripur, during a midnight raid on a plaza.

Assistant Superintendent Police (Headquarters) Abdul Wahid told journalists action was taken following a tip off. Rooms 204 and 310 of the Silkway Plaza on GT Road were raided and the accused, all hailing from Swat, were arrested.



Wahid said Rs13 million along with weapons were recovered from their possession. The suspects had been living at the plaza for a few months.

Those arrested are accused of being involved in multiple robberies and other crimes. “During the search, we recovered cash, two 30-bore pistols, 110 bullets and a dagger,” said Wahid.

The gang of robbers was also reportedly involved in money laundering in the city. The accused were identified as Azharuddin and Saddam Hussain, both students of Haripur University, along with Ziaur Rehman, Farman Ali and Gohar Rehman. Gang leader Riazul Hasan Afridi is still on the run. Separate cases were registered against the accused under different sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.
