Alhamra rings with laughter over Guddu ki guddi

Four short films and a feature film were screened.

The evening session of the first day of the 5th Lahore International Children’s Film Festival at Alhamra Arts Council on Monday kicked off with laughter and cheers for Guddu, a boy running after a kite dodging the obstacles in his way, in a short animated film. 


The hall was packed with children, teachers and parents . The films screened at the festivals have been divided into seven categories: feature films (live action), feature films (animation), short films (live action) short films (animation), Pakistani films (above 18), Pakistani films (under 18) and documentary films produced by children. The audience were divided by age groups: Group 1 included children up to seven years of age; Group 2, eight to 12 years; Group 3, 13 to 15 years; and Group 4, 16 years and above.

Four short films were screened on Monday evening.



The session kicked off with Guddu Ki Guddi. Miriam’s Food Processor was shown next. Emotions ran high during the screening of Colour Pencils, in which a child helped support his family by selling his drawings. The third short film screened was Bitseller. It was followed by the Centipede and the Toad. Bubble, another short film, was screened last.

The session concluded with the screening of Zarafa, an hour long animated feature film about a giraffe and a boy. The film depicted the importance of keeping promises. Maki, a boy, was shown trying hard to keep a promise to protect a giraffe’s daughter.

The film was directed by a French director, Rémi Bezançon.

Several stalls had been set up for the visitors. The face painting stall proved a favourite with younger children.

Muhammad Bilal, a student of class 3, said, “I had an awesome time... I am here with my family and we enjoyed all the movies.”

Fatima, a class 5 student, said, “The movies shown today were very informative. I enjoyed all of them...I especially liked the face painting.”
