KARACHI:

Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s MPA Jamal Ahmed Khan has submitted a privilege motion in the Sindh Assembly against the Rangers and police who conducted a raid at his office on September 10.

The party has also tabled an adjournment motion, requesting the assembly speaker to suspend all other agenda points of the upcoming Sindh Assembly session and discuss why their former MPA Nadeem Hashmi has been arrested. Khan said that a contingent of the Rangers and police raided his office in Block-K of North Nazimabad. He alleged that they ransacked his office and took away some electronic items. “The personnel of law enforcement agencies harassed our party workers and questioned them about me.”

According to Khan, no case has been registered against him. “Since I am an elected representative, the law enforcers not only breached my privilege but the entire assembly’s,” he said. “I will request the speaker to refer my privilege motion to a special committee before taking action.”

Rangers, police raids

Officials of the Rangers and police claimed to have arrested more than 190 suspects, including alleged target killers, extortionists and members of the Lyari gang war, during raids conducted on Friday.

A raid was also conducted by the Rangers at the house of Pakistan Peoples Party’s MNA Shahjahan Baloch in Nawa Lane, Lyari. A few suspects were allegedly arrested from his residence. Baloch is already facing imprisonment at the Karachi Central Jail. Lyari police DSP Shakeel Ahmed told The Express Tribune that the Rangers cordoned off Nawa Lane. “Baloch’s house is in that area and it is possible that the Rangers also searched his house.” According to the Rangers, the law enforcers apprehended 21 alleged criminals. The suspects were moved to an undisclosed location.

Separately, an alleged target killer, Adnan, was arrested by the police from Khawaja Ajmair Nagri. Police said that the accused was affiliated with a political party.
