LANDI KOTAL:

Banned outfit Ansarul Islam (AI) has welcomed the government’s offer for dialogue with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

In a statement to journalists via telephone on Thursday, AI Naib Amir Maulana Izatullah said dialogue is the only solution for all problems and the group will support the government in its initiative. Despite the mass exodus from Tirah, AI has maintained its position and strength in Khyber Agency, he said. “Our position has further strengthened in the region. Our network has further spread.”

We will help Internally Displaced Persons return to their homes, Izatullah said, adding durable peace can only be brought about through people. AI sought peace in the region through the ‘traditional method of dialogue’.

“Peace in Tirah valley cannot be restored until proper reforms are made. The people of the valley must be given the right to decide about their future.  Dictates of non-locals will never be accepted,” he added.
