FAISALABAD:

A spurious pesticide factory was sealed here on Friday by an agriculture officers’ raiding team.

The team was headed by District Officer (Agriculture) Chaudhry Abdul Hameed.

It raided a pesticide factory in Chak 77-GB and found spurious pesticides there.

The factory was sealed and pesticides confiscated. The DO said that the plant used for preparing pesticides was also confiscated. Samples of the products were sent for laboratory test.

Three men were arrested and handed over to Satiana police. They were identified as Rajab Ali, Mansab Ali and Saif Ahmad. Police said the owner of the factory, Fayyaz Cheema, fled from the scene.

The suspects were handed over to the police who registered a case against them and are looking for the factory owner.

The district officer told The Express Tribune that the factory owner had acquired a fake certificate. He said the owner used labels of established pesticides brands.

He said he hoped that information obtained from those arrested would help trace other suppliers of sake and spurious pesticides.

11 illegal housing colonies demolished

The Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) on Friday demolished structures at entrances to 11 illegal housing colonies.

FDA Additional Director General Muhammad Ahmad Rajoana said that the colonies had been developed without FDA’s approval. He said the authority had issued several notices to the developers reminding them that they needed to obtain FDA approval.

He said an FDA team, along with district administration officials, had now launched a crackdown against illegal housing colonies. He said the crackdown would continue.

Later talking to reporters, he asked citizens to avoid purchasing plots and houses in unapproved housing colonies. He said such colonies did not provide gas, electricity and water connections.

He said properties in these colonies were not readily transferable.

The colonies he listed are: Yousuf Town on Sargodha Road, Gulshan-i-Makkat on Sargodha Road, Welcome City on Sargodha Road, Ideal Town on Sargodha Road, Al-Makka City on Satiana Road in Chak 225-RB, Al-Madina City on Satiana Road in Chak 225-RB, Best Homes on Satiana Road in Chak 238-RB, Gulshan-i-Rehmat on Narwala Road in Chak 100-JB, Gulshan-i-Barkat on Narwala Road, Naseem Garden on Narwala Road and Dry Port City on Jhumra Road.
