PESHAWAR: Seven people, including five police officials were injured when an explosion took place in the Hasht-e-Nagari police station in Peshawar on Friday evening, Express News reported.

Initial police reports suggested that a motorcycle which was parked inside the station was laden with explosives.

The motorcycle belonged to a police official called Hayat, who had come to the station for a work-related query, Express News reported.

However, Express News correspondent Ehtisham Khan said that the bomb disposal squad was investigating if the explosives were on the motorcycle, placed in the police station or were thrown from outside.

Hayat was also injured in the explosion.

SP city Ismail told The Express Tribune that the explosion was a low-intensity one and that investigations were underway.

He had said the explosives were attached with the motorcycle's battery.

Soon after the blast, a fire broke out at the police station.

"A fire brigade has been called to the site," said Express News correspondent Yasir Ali, adding that the intensity of the fire was low.

The area has been cordoned off for further investigation. The injured have been shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital.

Around 50 people were present at the site when the explosion occurred.

ANP chief's visit to the site of explosion

Awami National Party (ANP) chief Ghulam Bilour, on his visit to the site of the explosion, said that allowing the motorcycle to be parked inside the station was a security failure.

Commenting on the All Parties Conference which is to take place on September 9, he said that he hadn't refused the invitation.
