HYDERABAD:

Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) young leader Aseefa Bhutto Zardari will be assisting her brother, Bilawal Bhutto, the same way her aunt helps the president.

MNA Faryal Talpur made this statement after President Asif Ali Zardari’s younger daughter registered her vote at the Election Commission of Pakistan office in Tando Allahyar on Wednesday.

The move raised speculations about the possibility of Aseefa contesting the next general elections from one of the constituencies in the district. “I have come here on the instructions of PPP chairperson and my brother Bilawal Bhutto Zardari,” she said at a press conference later. “The poor people of Tando Allahyar are my own people. I have to make them strong and work for their betterment.” She was accompanied by information minister Sharjeel Memon, MNA Faryal Talpur, and others.

Tando Allahyar, which was part of Hyderabad before three districts were carved out from it in the year 2002, has remained a PPP stronghold in every general election since 1988. The party lost only once to an independent candidate in 2002 elections on one of the two Sindh Assembly seats in the district. However, MNA Talpur clarified that the decision about Aseefa’s candidature from Tando Allahyar has not been taken so far. “The decision will be taken at the appropriate time by the party leadership,” she said.

Aseefa’s vote was registered in union council Jhando Mari of Jhando Mari taluka. Tando Allahyar has one National Assembly and two Sindh Assembly constituencies. Aseefa will be 20 years old this December. It is unlikely that she will attain the minimum age of 25 years for being eligible to contest on the NA or PS seats given the next general elections are held on time.
