Musharraf has the right to enter politics: Zardari

President Zardari says Musharraf should enter politics, but in a democratic way.

KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday said that former president Pervez Musharraf has the right to enter politics but should only do so in a democratic way.

He added that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) followed politics of reconciliation and would continue to work with other parties.

Zardari's statements come after Musharraf's launch of the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) and the former president's scathing attacks on politicians, which included calling the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) a mistake.

On the issue of Dr Aafia's sentence, Zardari said that the government would help her family appeal for her release.

He appreciated the efforts of the media and advised media persons to stay clear of sensationalism, reporting the truth to the masses. Zardari also said a Benazir Bhutto Journalist Card and an insurance package would also be introduced for the journalist community.

There is a long list of wrongdoings during his ten years rule including the killing of so many innocent people in the Lal Masjad episode. Musharraf has to face the trial on return to country for his actions during the rule. Musharraf committed big blunder in the shape of Kargil adventure which defamed country in the comity of nations. On the other hand Ashfaq Pervez Kayani is a professional soldier and there are no chances of military intervention in the affairs of democratic government. It is a good omen for the nation that country has a pro-democracy Army Chief. We all hope that he will never indulge in any unconstitutional practice. He is not even expected to do something under so-called Article 190.Any request made to military will be sent to Defence Minister as per SOP!

He should come back because he is answerable to people of Paksitan. Pervez Musharraf had lost his mind after losing his government and had become insane. Musharraf lacked discretion and polity, which were essential in politics. Musharraf’s arrival is very important for Pakistan, as we need answers for many crimes he did against the nation. His arrival is important for strengthening rule of law as it will give chance to trial him for his unconstitutional actions. I am sure if people in NWFP and Baluchistan get a chance to file cases against him in the courts for his crimes against humanity, it will help in calming down the situation in many parts of our country. It will give a chance for Army to restore its image in the eyes of many, who have grievances against the national institution due to the policies by former dictators. Musharraf’s arrival will also be a big test for our civil society, media and the Pakistani nation as a whole. It will give us a chance to set precedence of indiscriminate justice and rule of law. I hope we will take the right decisions without falling to our prejudices and greed.
