KARACHI:

IBSF world champion Mohammad Asif redeemed himself by defeating Rambail Gul 4-0 in their 5th NBP Ranking Snooker Championship match at the NBP Sports Complex.

Asif, who had suffered a shock defeat to Babar Masih on day two of the national event, was back to his best as he won 77-14, 57-14, 83-03 and 85-13.

The 30-year-old cueist said that he was wary after his earlier defeat and was not complacent in his match against Gul.

“There is no room to be complacent now,” Asif told The Express Tribune. “I upped my game against Rambail which helped me register an easy win.”

Defending champion Asjad Iqbal also returned to winning ways by beating Masih 4-3 in their group clash.

In other matches, Ayaz Khan defeated Naveen Perwani 4-2 while Sultan Muhammad won 4-1 against Uzair Aziz.

Amir Rasheed bagged two victories on the day, both with an identical scoreline of 4-2. He first outplayed youngster Mohsin Amin and then went on to defeat Vishan Gir.

Seasoned campaigner Khurram Agha edged past spirited Mohammad Bilal with a closely fought 4-3 victory as the match went right down to the wire. Agha initially led 2-0 but Bilal fought back to make it 2-2, only to see Agha restore his lead to go 3-2 up.

However, Bilal was in no mood to go down easily and took the game to a decider, but Agha’s experience came into play as he won 61-52, 78-29, 39-56, 11-76, 71-32, 44-64 and 91-15.

Young gun Humza Akbar defeated Mohammad Yousuf 4-3 while Imran Shehzad won 4-1 against the talented Mohammad Majid.
