Shoaib Naveed, one of the suspects in the murder case of Hamza Ahmed, was among the students who received their O’ Level results on Tuesday. The only difference was that he took his exams with one hand chained to the chair.
Hamza, 17, was allegedly gunned down by the security guard, Amal, of Shoaib following an altercation between the two outside a restaurant in the Defence Housing Authority on April 27.
Shoaib along with his guard have been accused of the murder. Currently out on bail, the teenager sat his O’ Level exams while in custody in the Juvenile Jail. For his papers, he was escorted to the SKBZ College by police officers. In a separate room and with one hand chained to the chair, Shoaib, according to his father, became the first juvenile inmate in the city to take his O’ Level examination.
As the results came out on Tuesday, Shoaib learnt that he had secured two A*’s, three A’s and three B’s.
Sharing his result with The Express Tribune, Shoaib’s father said that he was delighted. “I think it is an excellent result keeping in mind the circumstances in which he gave the papers.” According to him, frequent power outages and ruckus created by other inmates in the jail along with the pressure of facing murder charges did not let Shoaib prepare well for the exams.
Since Shoaib was not allowed to make any phone calls while behind bars, he informed his family whether he needed books or notes when he would meet them.
According to the results issued, Shoaib got an A* in both English Language and Mathematics, A’s in Economics, Additional Mathematics and Physics, and B’s in English Literature, Urdu and Computer Studies. The court had given him permission to take his papers a day before the exams kicked off on May 9.

When Shah Rukh Jatoi was dubbed as murderer, whole Urdu and English media showed biased mood to propagate hate against one community. But the same thing repeated,when another kid Hamza lost his life, but this time media reporting was very soft and docile. Look! how they are projecting now and glorifying the one who is supposed to be part of murdering Shaheed Hamza Ahmed. Why hypocrisy and double-faced justice?Why we turn blind eyes on Hamza's death?But we all take swords against Shah Rukh Jatoi? Is it because it is easy to malign one community? We must not be partisan, and must be fair enough to call for justice both for Shahzeeb and Hamza.
he was never in juvenile jail he was in the adult jail you liars
Btw, ET... didn't you consider how bad the victim's family is going to feel after reading this? I mean you're slapping it in their faces all the things that their child would never do.
@Middle Class People: It’s strange how me and my friends, middle class people, roam around without any guards.
If you stand in the middle of the road with a sign hanging in your neck "kidnap me", no one will take you even if you pay them money to kidnap you.
Son of a rich family is more likely to be kidnapped, just guess why?
Innocent until proven guilty. His O level marks should not have an affect on his verdict, however. I think the parents should also be questioned. Why do kids these days need guards? Is it really that unsafe in Karachi for influential people? It's strange how me and my friends, middle class people, roam around without any guards. We also get into fights (it is a part of being young) but we don't have access to weapons and are able to solve our issues out verbally. Parents should not give their kids private guards since it gives them the wrong impression.... that they are above the law. It also caters to the escalation of heated disputes into unlawful disputes. Many of these feudal lords have guards who will kill or die for their 'masters' pride to be maintained. They should be strictly ordered not to use the gun unless their 'masters' life is in immediate danger.
His guard shot him why is HE in jail. And the guard still hasn't been arrested. He didn't do it people
So he's a brilliant kid, okay (securing A's and A* in O' Levels is no piece of cake), but that doesn't automatically mean that he has to be an angel. Also, the truth is that despite his outstanding marks his future will be severely compromised (especially if he intends to get his education abroad) if he has criminal record with a murder charge on it.
A lot of kids with A's apply to foreign universities, they have no shortage of brilliant candidates and all universities are required to do a background check on the candidates - once they find out he has a murder charge on him they will not hesitate to throw his application out.
@Insaan:
ALLEGED murderer.
Grades seem more important than lives to parents like these
Just two words: "So what".
His parents maybe proud but his grades have nothing to do with his innocence or guilt in this matter. This should not be news at all!
Maybe the victim (whom he has killed) would have became a scientist or maybe a new leader for Pakistan or a doctor , maybe a noble price winner...or maybe he would have remained a source of comfort for his parents... This news should not hinder anything in the case (period).
You know you can study in jail too.
Kind of an alright/above-average result given what A's in O'Levels are like these days. His case should be judged purely on merit.
@Likewise: exactly!
Well what else was the boy supposed to do with his time in jail! its good he studied and achieved good grades, but still doesn't get my sympathy vote. Children fight all the time, but to have a guard, and to give power to a guard to shoot another child is unforgivable.
Author is trying to create sympathy for a murderer.
Don't like this media report, his results have nothing to do with it.
and why is this even news?
congrats, you can fight them buddy
