HAFIZABAD:

A man and a woman were shot dead on Sunday allegedly by the woman’s father, who was arrested shortly after the incident was reported. Police said Ishrat Bilal, 26, worked in Saudi Arabia and had recently returned to Pakistan.

They said he had developed a relationship with Nazia Bibi, 19. Police said a few weeks ago the two had married without the consent of Nazia Bibi’s parents.

They said on Sunday, her father Ahmed Ali called her and said that he wanted to reconcile with them. He later visited their house, where he shot them both and fled. Bilal and Nazia Bibi both died on the spot.

Some neighbours who had heard the gun shots rushed to their house and found them lying dead. Some of them said they had seen Ali leaving the house shortly. Ali was arrested from his house. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
