IB inspector succumbs to injuries

PESHAWAR: An inspector of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) who was targeted in an attack in Sarki Gate on Wednesday night succumbed to his injuries at Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) early Thursday morning.

Mazhar Ali Shah was fired at by two men armed with pistols near his residence in a crowded market place. The attackers managed to escape after the assault, leaving Shah seriously wounded. He was rushed to LRH where he expired after fighting for his life for several hours.

Residents said both attackers were young men, who shot Shah in the chest and throat before calmly disappearing into the crowd.

Since the begining of Ramazan, two former assistant directors of the IB have been gunned down inside the city in addition to Kabuli police sub-inspector Gharibullah.
