ISLAMABAD:

The government is considering establishing national youth centres and provincial community centres to provide a forum for youth debates.

According to the Annual Plan 2013-14, the initiative’s focus is to enhance youth interest on national issues and to ensure they engage in community development and networking.

The most important issues that will be promoted are health, education — both formal and non-formal — recreation, child labour, drug abuse. Expanding the vocational training and employment promotion programmes to cover all districts would also help utilize the youth’s potential in a positive way, the annual plan said.

The document said that the youth will receive micro-credits and entrepreneurial training.  Official sources said the Punjab government in 2012-13 chalked out major programmes including the Youth Internship Programme, e-Youth Programme (Laptop Awards), PEEF Scholarships, Danish Schools and IT Labs.
