Trends: The silhouette is characterized by voluminous coats and narrow trousers tucked into a pair of heavy boots.

The military influence is there but not as literal.

Scottish tartans or flannel lumberjack plaids and checks were shown heavily on the catwalks for Autumn/Winter 2010. Trousers, shirts, jackets and even full suits were shown in a variety of plaids in medium to heavyweight materials. Invest in a flannel shirt for a casual look, or if you are more daring, a pair of plaid trousers for a fashion-forward look.

Work wear is another key reference point shown with items like work shirts and union suits.

A slick, hard and aggressive aesthetic is also prevalent through black attire and various greys with lots of leather for skinny pants and biker jackets.

Colours: Sepia tones and grey. For work wear, the colour palette focuses on dirty chambray and yellow-cast khaki.

Five must-haves

The three-piece suit is the must-have formal garment for men accompanied by accessories such as ties and bow-ties

Smart casual fitted designer jeans in light grey or black accompanied by a stylish sport jacket and a screen-printed t-shirt

A cool retro blazer is definitely a must-have item with patch pockets and/or elbow patches. Or opt for big lapels and double-sided vents

Ray Ban Aviator sunglasses

A stylish crocodile skin laptop computer bag
