But the pair fell to successive deliveries by Ishant Sharma and England's lower order crumbled as the hosts finished on 124 for eight.
Miserly bowling by Bopara and James Tredwell helped England restrict India to 129 for seven after the start of play had been delayed by nearly six hours due to persistent rain.
Virat Kohli top-scored with 43 and Shikhar Dhawan, the tournament's leading run-scorer, made a breezy 31 but India were never able to dominate a disciplined England attack. Rohit Sharma was bowled by Stuart Broad for nine and Dhawan mistimed a drive in Bopara's first over and was caught by Tredwell at mid-off.
Dinesh Karthik skied a catch off Tredwell and Bopara struck twice in his third over, getting Suresh Raina caught by Alastair Cook at mid-on and dangerman MS Dhoni well taken by Tredwell on the third man boundary.
Bopara completed excellent figures of three for 20 but Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja took 30 runs off the next three overs and Kohli, badly dropped by Jonathan Trott, launched Broad for a massive six over square leg.
Kohli skied James Anderson to long off but Jadeja finished unbeaten on 33 after clouting Tim Bresnan for another six in the final over of the innings.
England lost wickets steadily at the start of their reply. Cook fell for two, edging a catch to first slip off Umesh Yadav, Trott made a fluent 20 off 17 balls before being stumped by Dhoni off Ravichandran Ashwin and Joe Root pulled the same bowler straight to long leg.
Ian Bell's laborious innings of 13 ended when he was controversially given out by the third umpire, stumped by Dhoni off Jadeja.
England were in deep trouble at 46 for four, bamboozled by the prodigious turn of Ashwin, Jadeja and Raina.
Morgan and Bopara brought up their 50 partnership off 47 balls and at 110 for four with three overs left the hosts were scenting victory.
But Morgan, on 33, spooned Sharma to mid-wicket and Bopara pulled his next ball straight to backward square leg. Jos Buttler was bowled by Jadeja's first ball and Bresnan was run out in a mix-up with Broad.
England needed 15 for victory from the final over and six off the last ball.
Tredwell missed with a wild heave at Ashwin and the Indian players were left to celebrate a famous victory.

@binger: I would rather call Sri Lankans.
What an irony!! Most of Pakistani fans are congratulating Team India over their victory, while most of Indian fans bashing Pakistanis....... like if they have won the series against Pakistan, as if Pakistan was the only team contesting in trophy, apart from India.
@Malik:
This match was rigged, right from beginning to end to please the moneybags of BCCI and to please the Indian fans in the ground. If ICC wanted to award this trophy to India, they need not have conducted such an elaborate drama for 3 weeks !!
Brother, You forgot the weather.
The clouds looked distinctly Indian. In fact it rained more times during the Indian innings to give the Indian batsmen a much needed rest.
Now go ahead and sue the Creator of all clouds and rains.
Indian Kaaptan for Prime Minister.
I am sure this will find support across the border.
Please stop the boring Indo Pak duel. It is not worth the time and effort to respond to trolls. There is no need to be defensive or to offer explanation as Indian team is the best of the best. India actually won another world cup.
@Dr. Asad Sadick, Germany: well it happens to all team.... also do remember this same Pakistani team defeated Indian Team in India.Pakistan needs to revamp it's attitude towards fielding and batting.
Reading comments in ET are more interesting than watching Final. Fierce fighting going on between few. Great.
@Malik: Why don't you guys go ahead and fix some matches. Your team needs it badly. Moreover you guys have more money in Swiss banks. Make some use of it.
@Malik: "100 per cent fixed match to please BCCI !" When India beat Pakistan, was that match fixed too? If thats true, what does that say about the Pakistan team which is willing to lose for money? :-)
@Malik: Sour Grapes.
Man .....for me Dhoni is best captain ever.....He won every possible thing in cricket world as a captain !!
T20 world cup ODI world cup ODI Champions Trophy many IPL Trophies and Champions League
1 in TEST 1 in ODINow what else left ?
For me India is True champion because they won all 7 games in tournament ( 2 practice) and reached to Semi-final and Final dominantly with all their work and not some NET RUN RATE and depending on drama like if A team win by this many runs or c team loss by that many wickets then we qualify equations ! Even everybody said win toss in final and win trophy but Dhoni/India proved all wrong even after losing toss ! INDEED in the end true Champions won the CHAMPIONS Trophy !!
@Naresh: No need to answer these people there are many pakistanis who appreciate our team we should not talk these ignorant people and please a sincere request please make pakistani team the same as in days of imran would like to see a serious contest of indo-pak please you are an asset that cricket can't lose
@Zaida P Why do you bring in "secularism" here? Nobody, at least in India, has even thought about what you are saying. Indian players are looked upon as players and not as members belonging to a particular religion. When Azarudin was captain of the Indian team years ago, he was being given full support by the crowd without any consideration of his religion. But, when he was found to be involved in a match fixing scandal, he insulted the Indian fans by saying that he was punished because he was a Muslim. Anyway, Muslims (and their descendants) who have left India to have a country of their own have no reason to accuse India of not being secular. You left because you did not believe (so be it) in the "secular" credentials of India. Then why do you criticize India at all?
Friends..Its time to comgrates Indian team for there victory rather than creating controvercies.
Well done India. You deserve it.
@Zaida P
There is someone called Irfan Pathan, who is a member of this Indian team. You would have been correct in saying that there was no Muslim in the playing eleven. But it is not important. I don't know about Pakistan, but in the rest of the world teams are selected on the basis of their ability regardless of their religiosity.
@Malik:
is something burning ?????
@Cricketer: "Yet another trophy bought.. Well played BCCI, keep up the good work!"
Pakistanis can be bought, we all know that. 1. The Army doing America's bidding 2. The mullahs doing KSA bidding 3. The cricketers doing their own bidding.
But English??
@Zaida P Ji: . @Arja: It was not a “secular” victory. There are no Muslims in the Indian team that played the CT. But it was a very good win especially after all the controversies in India just prior to the team leaving for England. . India does not wear its "Constitutional, Democratic, Secular etc." Status on its sleeve. They try to choose the "Best Available". . Remember India does not FORCE its sports persons to Convert. In this case I would like to remind you of the CHANGE of Yousuf Youhana to Mohammad Yousuf! . Cheers
the best thing is he allows his team to enjoy the movement see he gave the trophy to his team for photo ops and was side that's what you call humble msd answers to all the critics through his action proud of you to have you as our captain
Good job India. You deserved it. Indian team members are all brimming with confidence and enthusiasm, and thats the way to go about it; not like our boys who not only lack confidence but don't beleive in themselves nor in their abilities.
Yet another trophy bought.. Well played BCCI, keep up the good work!
@Malik
A clear case of sour grapes………
Had Pakistan won, the tone & argument would have been totally different. Everything would be suitably justified. Once again you have proved that you are bad losers. Instead of learning from India, you are indulging in post-mortem which obviously would serve no purpose. No body pays attention to the “foul” cries of the losers.
@Malik: So was the match with Sri- Lanka (Semi's) - With Pakistan + West Indies and so on - I mean lets call - All 5 matches were fixed for India - and Pakistan who played honestly lost all 3
It is time Pakistan gives the youngsters a chance. Both Pakistan and India have excellent youngsters. Cricket is but a game of sport and the team with a better temperament is the one that will succeed on the day. Pakistan has excellent players. Some may be out of form. Therefore let us not sit on the bench and dictate to the selectors. They have a job to be done and they are paid to do it. If they listened to our comments then the team would surely in a bigger mess.
@Malik Don't be Jealous my friend India played well and win, check out your own team what's wrong to them DHONI is the key person leading the side from front and played awesome GREAT VICTORY BY TEAM INDIA.
Malik @ HOHOHOHOHOH HAHHAHAHHA.Great joke.My sympathies to u.I know its difficult to stomach this but we are used to this comedy which was also noticed during India world cup victory in 2011.Now this trophy has been won on bouncy tracks defeating all nations.I thank u for the comment as u made my day,Laughter is the best medicine.
For once the Indian TV channels did not go berserk over this victory, rather they kept highlighting the Uttrakhand monsoon tragedy and even Shikhar Dhawan dedicated his award to the victims. As for some of our jealous Pakistani friends, please stop whining and concentrate on what is wrong with your country. Today the UN says there is food emergency, should I remember you about the education emergency, the losing battle against polio, and killings every single day.
@Tareen: Couldn't agree more. Imagine India won all its games, including the warm ups, quite easily. Indeed, it remained the only unbeaten side in the tournament. Add to that Dhawan and Jadeja were the best batsman and bowler, respectively, in the series. To add to the mystery, Pakistan lost all its league matches, including the one against India. Yes, the whole thing was, what did you say, "quite fishy"!
100 per cent fixed match to please BCCI !
Cook won the toss and asked India to bat instead of batting first on a good wicket. He knew that the wicket would turn square later and help India. Instructions from ECB ? See how Trott dropped an easy catch to allow Kohli to score more runs. Bresnan, normally a good bowler, deliberately bowled dollies so that Jadeja can help India post a total above 120. Third umpire gave Bell Out when he was clearly Not Out !!! This is sure proof that someone at ICC wanted India to win this match badly. Overthrow from Bresnan again. Deliberately done just to increase India score. 20 runs required from 15 deliveries with 6 wickets in hand. And Morgan and Bopara, who were batting brilliantly till that time, suddenly hit the ball straight to the fielder to take a catch. Till that time, all the shots of Morgan and Bopara were in the gaps. Not a single shot went to a fielder. Bresnan again. Did anyone notice how he gifted his wicket, first trying to get himself out LBW and then run out ? LOL Finally, the pitch. Even an indian curator would be ashamed of such a 5th day test match pitch for a final of a trophy.This match was rigged, right from beginning to end to please the moneybags of BCCI and to please the Indian fans in the ground. If ICC wanted to award this trophy to India, they need not have conducted such an elaborate drama for 3 weeks !!
Pakistan can be proud that the trophy is at there next door neighbour...
This guys Dhoni is the envy of the cricketing world. He is the Einstein of cricket. He can't do anything wrong. How lucky are India to have unearthed such a gem. Such talent in the whole team anyway, India surely have come a long way!
Most unfortunately the bubble of Pakistan team has burst, unless we introduce young blood, the Maliks, Farhats, Akmals and Afridis will continue to suck whatever remaining blood out of our cricketing veins.
To me the best part of this victory is that the second string of players have begun to come good.
No Tendulkar, Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj etc and so many ' ir replaceable ' stalwarts were not there . The young boys have shown both their mettle and the fact that there is no room for replacements.
India won by their professionalism and Pakistan lost by the will of God.
India shining and pakistanis(some atleast) whining.
Team India played like world champions. Beating England in their home ground is not an easy feat, but they did it. The credit goes to captain cool Dhoni who has the nerves made of steel.
The better team won today and the best team won the tittle. Kudos to the young Indian team. They did not continue with the great but old players and groomed new talent.
@Arja: It was not a "secular" victory. There are no Muslims in the Indian team that played the CT. But it was a very good win especially after all the controversies in India just prior to the team leaving for England.
Congratulations Team India! I've been a fan of Indian cricket since playing with a tape ball in the maidan and hitting balls into the neighbor's windows etc. But something tells me this win is a conspiracy between Modi and the CIA.
@2015WCWinner: But Indian players have the best mustache
T20 Worldcup ODI Worldcup ODI Champions Trophy TEST # 1 ODI # 1
No doubt no captain in history of cricket achieved all Plus, IPL + Champion league titles !
Dhoni is the MAN !
Pakistan can be also proud that the Cup is nexct door:) +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
@TightPatloon: Don't you just wonder what kind of shameless players do these other teams have who agree to loose the match for the money and let their country down?Doesn't it also tell about the kind of society producing these kind of players?
@Tareen:
I agree; but don't think the match is fixed. LOL. If you are not used to winning big final games, pressure gets to you. Thats what happened to England. Nothing uncommon. Dont discredit Indians
I am glad that Wasim bhai had a stylist talk to our players about their hairs. Pakistan may have lost the Champions Trophy, but they certainly had the best hairs.
Pakistan has a lot to learn from team India, particularly MS Dhoni. I was seriously impressed by his views at the match presentation. The guy has achieved everything a captain could ever dream of and yet he was humble and down to earth to the core. It proves that perseverance and good intentions do pay off in the end.
India rocks!
Congrats to INDIAN TEAM ND PPL OF INDIA for winning the ICC TROPHY 2013.
Congrats to Team India on winning the final. You guys played well throughout the tournament, and deserved to win. Sorry that we only got to see 20 overs of that marvelous Indian batting!
It has fixed written all over it. England were in commanding position and suddenly runs stopped coming. Clearly this needs to be investigated by ICC. Now that Najam Sethi is PCB director hopefully he will take up the issue and the unfair dismissal of Pakistan
Team India, India's pride, neighbour's envy. Champions of Champions Trophy.
India lost the toss, batted first but still won. Strange but true.
Cricket is coming across a bit like WWF these days. The last 4 English wickets seemed quite fishy, not saying this because India won...but there seems to be something constructed and artificial about the "thrill" in these matches. And the Ian Bell decision was seriously dodgy...
East or West...INDIA is the BEST !!!!! :)
Q: Who are "The Chokers of The Finals"? A: England
True secular victory. None praised god for this win. Believe in humans and professionalism. Well done India. A truly deserved victory.
yes yes yes..........!!!!
The Best Team in the World won. Nothing surprising about this result. BLEED BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations India. You really deserved it, unbeaten in this tournament and you stayed unbeaten. From a die hard Pakistan team fan
India the best team in the world they are the best batting, fielding and spin bowling team
Good job Team India. Keep up the winning momentum.
