Exploding cans

Letter June 14, 2013
It is advisable not to keep any such pressure cans inside one’s cars during the summer months.

KARACHI: An air freshener can was left on the seat inside a car parked in the sun and due to high temperature and heat generated, it exploded. Thank God there were no children in the car.

I would urge your readers to kindly take care that they do not park their vehicles in the open under the hot summer’s sun and especially, when there are pressure cans (aerosol sprays, perfume and deodorant sprays/bottles, even aerated liquids such as soft drinks) inside the car. It is advisable not to keep any such pressure cans inside one’s cars during the summer months.

Also do not close the windows of a car fully when parked in the open in the sun. One should keep a bit of the window — about half an inch — lowered so that there is some circulation of the hot air inside the vehicle’s seating area.

Otherwise, the temperature inside the vehicle can rise very rapidly and damage plastic items and fixtures, as well as CDs/DVDs etc.
