Three security personnel killed in N Waziristan

Three security personnel were killed on Sunday while three others were injured in two separate improvised explosive device (IED) blasts in North Waziristan Agency.

According to a security official, the first incident occurred around 8am near a security convoy heading to Bannu from Razmak subdivision. The roadside IED exploded close to one of the vehicles, destroying it completely and killing three personnel on the spot. Two others were severely injured in the blast as well, the official added.

Security forces launched a search operation for suspected militants immediately following the incident. However, no one was arrested due to the curfew in the agency. The political administration of the agency had imposed curfew in the early hours of Sunday in light of the movement of security forces. The curfew was relaxed in the evening.

Just an hour after the first incident, an IED planted on the Mirali-Miramshah road exploded, severely injuring an official of the bomb disposal squad who had been clearing the route for a security forces convoy, the official told The Express Tribune.

He added that the injured were airlifted to the Combined Military Hospital Bannu along with the bodies of the deceased.
