All in a day’s attacks: Security official killed, three injured in roadside blast

Girls school, hujra destroyed by suspected militants.

A security forces official was killed and three others were injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded on a roadside in Jani Khel, Frontier Region (FR) Bannu on Friday morning.


The IED was detonated by a remote device, Jani Khel police official Malik Ihsanullah Khan told The Express Tribune. The explosion occurred at 6am.

A convoy of security forces was patrolling the area when the bomb went off near one of the vehicles and destroyed it. After the explosion, security forces launched a search operation. However, no one was arrested till the filing of this report.

The injured and deceased were taken to Combined Military Hospital Bannu. Later, Deputy Commissioner Bannu Syed Ahmad Jan directed police to seize all vehicles in FR Bannu and arrest the tribesmen. Police arrested hundreds of tribesmen in the frontier region and settled area of Bannu under the collective responsibility clause of the Frontier Crimes Regulation.

Girls school destroyed

A government school for girls was destroyed in a bomb blast in Miryan after unidentified militants planted the explosives on the premises on Friday.



According to Miryan police official Nabi Shah, at 1.30am patrol police reported a loud explosion on the outskirts of Miryan but were unable to locate the exact source.

The following morning locals of the area came to the station to report militants had detonated a bomb inside Akbar Zaman Girls Primary School, damaging the entire structure.

Police and bomb disposal squad (BDS) officials visited the spot and said the device had been planted near the school’s verandah, which collapsed in the blast. Two classrooms were also partially damaged according to the officials. Five kilogrammes of explosives packed in a canister were reportedly used in the explosion.

A case was filed against the unidentified militants.

Bomb detonates in a hujra

A bomb exploded inside a hujra in Mamash Khel on Friday.

Gafar Shah, a relative of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) district leader and former MPA Syed Hamid Shah, reported unidentified militants detonated an improvised bomb near his guesthouse, damaging the structure.

The militants had placed the bomb near one of the rooms in the hujra, informed SHO Cantt Sadullah. The SHO added this was the second time the hujra of Gafar Shah had been destroyed. No loss of life was reported as no one was present in the building at time of the blast.

A case was filed against unidentified militants.
