LAHORE: The heat wave experienced by Lahore has become worse for locals as load-shedding nears 12 hours a day, reported Express News on Friday.
Even after the caretaker PM Mir Hazar Khan Khoso released Rs 22 billion for electricity relief, there has been no improvement in the load-shedding. In some areas, it has nearly doubled in fact. In the previous schedule after every four hours of load-shedding, an hour of electricity was released however now load-shedding has increased to eight hours.
According to reports, some areas in Lahore experience nearly 12 hours of load-shedding in a day. The daily life of residents has been severely impacted as there is also a reported shortage of water.
Similarly, in some parts of Karachi and Faisalabad, load-shedding is for nearly eight hours a day.
People wait for relief as the incoming government has made promises to eliminate the problem of load-shedding.
According to recent data, the power shortfall has crossed 6,500 megawatts.
The total demand for power is 15,700 megawatts, whereas around 9,000s megawatt energy is produced only.
Because of the severe shortfall, the duration for power outages has reached 22 hours in certain parts of the country.

NA 68 nawaz sharif area
no electricity in sargodha na 68 for 20 hr loadshedding
no roads mils livelihood let see
I live in Calgary since 1 June 1990, I have experienced load shedding for not more than 30 minutes in 23 years.
The idea behind such dreadful power outages is as Mr. Sharif take oath and step in office there will be an instant relief of 4 to 6 hours to glorify efforts of newly elected setup towards the issue.. worst instance of cruel politics !!!
According to my calculations, if Pakistan cuts its military budget by 10% and releases this money to the power sector, the circular debt would come under control within 3 years Let's see if any government has the spine to do so.
This is self creating load shedding and PMLN is responsible for this when they will take charge they will revert it back to normal load shedding schedule and duffer people will say wow what a start . Loadshedding was much controlled in last year or so and it was around 8 hours i dont know what special has happened in last 2 months that it has got out of control . I hope that Nawas Sharif will carry on Iran-Gas pipeline to resolve this matter ASAP and hope will not play in the hands of US/Saudi for short term solution .
@faisal: so those people who have ups and generators dont feel heat? i invite u to my house in dha we have a ups it only works if u dont use it half the day then it works at night only one fan nothing else. if we dont complain then ur govt wont wake up and take it all for granted...waisting time on alliances while people die of heat!
Everyone commenting here : u all have UPS and most have generators especially if ur english writing pakistanis. So dont complain. There r plans afoot to improve things.
15 hrs plus shut down in 45 degree temperature heat is simply criminal and those who are responsible for the same are back in power in Punjab. This is a case of total lack of vision and extremely poor management of electric supply throughout Pakistan. How on the earth can power stations generate electricity when everyone in Pakistan starting from top politicians, civilian, military and private institutions(list of defaulters posted on ET by someone) down the line do not pay their electricity bills ? How long can the govt who has no money keep on bailing out the power stations ? No country including the all weather friend on whom all hopes are pinned can help solve energy crisis in Pakistan until the govt create a complete discipline and take action against all defaulters irrespective of their positions. Though the whole blame is put on the previous PPP govt but PMLN too is to be blamed for wasting 25 billions on sasti roti and another 25 billions on Metro bus service which could have easily been utilised in generating 6000 MW of electricity.
Query. If you don't pay your utility bill do you have a legitimate right to complain about load shedding? If the utility companies cut off the free loaders what would be the impact on load shedding - would that free up enough energy to eliminate or significantly reduce load shedding for the people who actually pay their bills.?
Admins! Why my comment not published! :@
Its like 20-22 hrs in Abbottabad, but still we can survive because its a hill station, but I wonder what is going on with lahore and faisalabad people,May God have mercy upon them!amen...
@tunngi: Seriously? Can you divide and discriminate anymore? Punjab is a province. Karachi is a city.! Punjab has more villas than combined all apartments, villas and slums in Karachi, and yes they don't have lights in slums. But you do need a lot of electricity to light your whole villa. Please educate yourself. You can compare Sindh with Punjab, but then Punjab has more population than Sindh and very less slums in comparison.
It is same in rawalpindi and lahore .18 hours plus load shedding in rawalpindi. our lives are miserable ! tears
Going from most of the comments of this article, I get the impression that the ET (Express Tribune) must have got their "facts" from ET (Extra Terrestrials!) ... perhaps the country needs such "Extra" help to solve the crisis?!? :-)
by combionation is 5 hr gone and 2 hr comes!!so im getting like 6 hrs on and 18 hrs without it!!can anybody from karachi tell how much are they experiencing since punjabis are in power now and by next month this is going to happen to you guys since ppp made us suffer us punjabis for too long
@Imran: Well, you got emotional and since you did not have any thing to say so you have shouted on me.
My dear you have to look at it realistically. I live in an area badly affected by load shedding. It doesn't mean that we always make a mess of everything. Media always need news and since people are directly affected with this problem therefore they are selling it every day.
Let me ask, why we don't have news about deteriorated education system of Pakistan every day in the media. Poor health facilities seldom finds place in the news however its all happening every day that people are regularly affected. People are not dying of load shedding. They have actually made themselves so dependent upon it therefore the matter is becoming more serious. What I think in certain situations continuous cutting of forest all over Pakistan and the reduction in mangroves is more important than Power problem.
And by the way Why we need so much power and for what. We could not even able to close our markets before dusk in Pakistan while in all cities of UK markets are closed at 5 pm. Our markets open at 1 pm. And what about the use of power at marriage lawns.
One thing we have to decide with ourselves that whether we need power for our needs or out luxuries. National consensus cannot be developed through media it is something that the brain-trust of the society generates from within and we need improvement in education sector immediately for this purpose so that our youth do not study for earning only which has become a prime objective of our entire nation at the moment. At present they learn to earn and earn to have more and more luxuries, and luxuries need power to run.
This is only this forum that people say something with a slight shade of courage otherwise you would not bother to stop a man from installing a kunda in your neighborhood since you are more interested to avoid any kind of untoward situation for yourself because smooth sailing in life is the only thing that you are after, so be it.
Privatize the whole energy sector: a suggestion from an outsider.
People who voted form PML N. Lets see what your leaders will do now. At least we voted for PTI with a hope of new Pakistan but you guys knew about PML N.
Is Lahore the only city of pakistan, what about Rawalpindi it is also more than 12 hour in Rawalpindi
12 hours loadshedding is just a cover up. New channels and news papers aren't reporting with honesty. ET atleast be honest. Its almost 16-20 hours loadshedding in areas of lahore. And these are urban and suburbs. I have no idea what is going on in the rural areas. @ashar ... dude if you were in front of me i would have shown real sobriety on your comment. It is the new government's ploy. You will see the proof once they take oath. People like ashar are the real threat to our society, without these moles corrupt and shameful political people cannot succeed.
we are having 1.5 hours of load shedding daily and guys this place is in pakistan :)
in lahore its now 20 hours of load shedding...........
This is unfair on the part of a newspaper like ET. Every body know the load shedding hours increase in summers. This is something happening for the last many years so what is the use of making a fuss of it. It more like pressurizing the Government-to-be before even taking charge of office. I suggest some sobriety should be demonstrated by the media and let the new government take action to check this problem and then should come the reports and views of analysts.
Its funny to read news like "duration of power-outages has extended to 12 hours a day". This is not load-shedding anymore, this is complete non-existence of electricity!.
Welcome to Purana Pakistan
Load Shedding is the only thing PAK should b proud off. Well Managed, Well Planned and Consistent! Clock ticks 9 and light goes off. :)
12 hours, please put up the correct figure, it is 20 hours or more. Actually there is no government. No one willing to accept the responsibility.
I live in another Lahore Where continuous 12 hours of Load shedding and 45 minutes of Light and it is more painful when you have old and kids are at your home and crying for light ups and downs of blood pressure and our so called new govt is just waiting for their turn to enjoy.
This article is seriously out of date. The Rs22 Billion hasn't been released, load shedding is far above 12 hours and Faisalabad up to 8 hours only? Which Faisalabad is this? Please show responsibility in publishing an article - it's only your own credibility at risk.
What 12 hours? I live in DHA Phase 5 and I'm experiencing 17 hours load-shedding everyday. Please get ur facts correct ET!!
Last whole night there was no light on my side in Lahore, and most of my colleagues are telling same situation. Imagine no light, whole night... temp 42 plus.
ET please wake up and smell the sweat! 8 hours of loadshedding in Karachi? Boohoo! Try 16-18 hours all over Lahore and most cities in Punjab? 8 hours sounds like heaven compared to that.
12 or 8 hours a day? That's clearly not true because right now the load shedding is no less than 18 hours a day even in cities.
Electricity outage is more severe in Lahore. Load shedding is around 17-20 hrs a day.
12 hours? are you kidding ? its atleast 15+ hours of load shedding since last 3 days...
@Jawad: I live it Model town too and i think we both had to be spend our whole night without electricity.
In Rawalpindi we had electricity for just 2.5 hrs only from 10 pm to 6 am today. Some sadist has prepared the schedule
Where are you getting your facts from Tribune? There is 14-16 electric outages going in Faisalabad! Electricity doesn't come for 6 hours straight at times!
I live in Johar Town Lahore and there is a massive load shedding of 16-18 hrs for last 4 days so I am unable to understand why 12 hrs of load shedding is being reported here
Check your facts. Load shedding was at least 12 hours a day now it's at 16 hours in even the posh areas of Lahore.
12 hours? It's upto 16~17 hours in model town extension
12 hour loadshedding in Lhr ??? is there another Lahore in Pakistan odr than the one m living in ?? we r facing 3-4 hour outage after every 60 minutes ...
12 hours? Are u kidding me?!! More like 17 hours. ET Please tell me where in lahore its going for just 12 hours. I'd like to shift there!
I think we have read enough on the newspapers, TV, social media and word of mouth that load-shedding have made a Hugh impact on all of us.
I think neither the caretaker government nor the PML-N will do anything about it, this is something we need to accept and inherit for our kids that this is a gift we have been given by PPP for excessive load-shedding, whereas Sindh is not experiencing the same.
We will hear a lot about millions/billions have been released but trust me nothing will happen to overcome this disaster. I also have a reason to believe that new government is part of excessive load-shedding in Punjab, since they are about to take oath on 1st week of June and it will be translated as they fixed the electricity.
ALLAH help us, we need to get immune to this disease.
