Misgivings: RO orders recounting of votes in PK-10

The process for recounting votes was initiated on Friday over an application filed by ANP leader.

Returning officer for provincial assembly constituency PK-10 Iftikhar Ahmad has ordered recounting of the votes polled in the general elections.


The process for recounting votes was initiated on Friday over an application filed by Awami National Party (ANP) leader and former deputy speaker of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly Khushdil Khan on May 12. Khan contested the elections from the PK-10 seat, but stood in second place with 10,319 votes.

Khan’s rival, the victorious Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate, Shah Farman, secured 11,863 votes while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Amanullah stood third with 8,547 votes.

RO Iftikhar Ahmad is expected to announce results soon after counting is completed.

Of a total of 130,140 registered voters, 48,828 including 12,086 female voters polled at 85 stations. Turnout stood at 37.52%, higher than that of the 2008 general polls wherein the turnout was 29.23%.

Shah Farman, PTI central deputy general secretary and winning candidate from the constituency is in hot water. He was lobbying for gaining ministry in the new setup but i think grape will turn sour for him. good luck!
