“I am satisfied with my performance as the governor of Punjab,” Mehmood said while answering the questions put forth by media. “I am an intellectually honest person and I my opinion it is right time for me to resign.”
“I will stay away from parliamentary politics from this day onwards,” he further said.
On the other hand, former governor ensured that he will continue to serve Pakistan, in his capacity but newly elected people should take charge now.
“Elections always take place like this in Pakistan,” Mehmood said in response to a question about the fairness of the elections.
“We should accept that the public has chosen PML-N [Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz] and let us hope Mian Muammed Nawaz Sharif will administer Pakistan effectively.”
“Incumbency factor is the reason why PPP [Pakistan Peoples Party] lost, people are angry at load shedding, unstable economy and lack of security and this why they [public] didn’t elect PPP.”
He congratulated President Asif Ali Zardari for ensuring a successful transition from one democratic government to the next.
In the end he also congratulated the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan for emerging as a large force in the general elections.

Th is a wise or a clever move by a feudal.He says he is intellectually honest.He is free to make that claim.Believing him or not is our discretion.If he were so honest why on Earth would he be Zardari,s governer.I am no supporter of PPP or PMLN as they are two faces of he same coin.Ask eve Drsim Hssain,he will also claim utmost honesty. It was his father's dream to become Governor and this is his mentor's order because he failed to do the job of routing out PML-N. Well he is lucky that as father he got hs dream true during his life that he got his son elected as MPA. Isn't that great.
@abdussamad: buddy as per my understanding, governor wasn't running Punjab anyway. it is the caretaker government which is responsible for running the province until the new government takes oath.

@abdussamad: Governer does not run the governement. He is a constituational head of the province like the president. Caretaker chief Minister will stay until the new CM is in office.
There is something fishy behind this resignation at this time..
Supposedly it will take at least 3 weeks for the new govt. to be formed. Who will run Punjab until then?

@waseem anwar. The governor is a rep of the federal govt. The federal govt is changing. So rather then wait to be ousted or re chosen, its a gentlemanly thing to just call it quits. People have no reposed confidence in the party which made him Governor, so morally he has lost the mandate too.
I can't understand the exact motives behind this move but on paper, it looks like very mature and democratic step.
