The PML-N has a large lead over the other parties. Interestingly, the PTI is just ahead of the PPP in the vote count.
Party | Number of counted votes |
PML-N | 1,199,894 |
PTI | 519,623 |
PPP | 438,167 |
PML-Q | 89,134 |
JUI-F | 86,886 |
JI | 67,430 |
MQM | 16,999 |

@Amara:
its magical...........and after all its pakistan
There is a difference between to run the election campaign on social media than people!!! Nice music concerts and nice ad campaign it does guarantee to with the hearts of people
@Amara: I had replied to you but ET blocked the blog.
I assure u , had it not been blocked , u wud have had all the replies necessary to finally keep you silent.
SOme other day I guess , Ma'am !!
@Proud Lahori: There are many of us who visit ET boards that have been saddened by the bloodshed in the run to the election and on the day of the election and glad at the high polling turnout despite all the violence and the first in history transition from one elected government to another.
Imran too has the mandate to implement his ideas in a KPK and so come election in 2018 he will be able to speak based on results and if he accomplishes even half of what he has promised, he will have strong credentials and no one will be able to call his. Ideas mpractical or starry eyed. If he is unable to, he will revise his ideas. The biggest opportunity Imran has is o test the hypothesis that if good governance was provided in KPK then there would be no terrorism.
So overall it is all good.
@Gary Really, well the politicians that have been voted in and those from previous parties in power have they ever gone to help the country. How many times have we seen them turn their heads whenever Pakistan was in trouble proving they are purposefully blind. Lets not forget a certain someone who went to a darga in India and gave a lot of money yet didn't help those who suffered from the floods, those who are killed due to terrorist attacks. After seeing all of this injustice their supporters still voted for them, proves they are blind to the destruction around them!
You are saying I am blind for wanting change and prosperity for Pakistan, well then you really haven't understood what I'm saying and definitely don't know what is happening in Pakistan!
@Amara: "The Blind leading the Blind..."
The mismatch between your expectations and outcomes, shows your blindness to reality not others.
(CAN YOU PLEASE POST THIS ET BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T POST IT BEFORE) @Asif Butt
"If u say that u were not born here and r not a citizen , then please kindly keep your lame political concerns to yourself. You have no right to come here and start your pointless debates with Pakistani Citizens."
Urm, last time I checked this was an open platform and anyone can state their opinion. Secondly, there are many others here who are probably not Pak citizens or some that are but could not or chose not to go to Pakistan. So in your eyes it is ok for people who could have voted but didn't, can state their opinion but someone who has a valid opinion and more neutral than most can't say theirs.
Like I said earlier, I care about Pakistan and want it to get better there. If Nawaz Sharif does this then I would be bursting with happiness! It's just sad that we all know this election was rigged and people voted for those who were in power before and have done no good. People saying oh PMLN is better than PPP at least, yeh ab tasili dete ro apna app ko!!!! Why not go for the best of the best, yes Imran may be new and inexperienced, but why go after those who have failed miserably in helping Pakistan and successfully filled their pockets! Ab bas dua karo jo bhi ho sab acha ho Pakistan ke liye Insha'Allah.
@Kulwant Singh, Very nice to see an Indian being supportive! However, by Nawaz Sharif coming into power doesn't mean it's guaranteed that Indo-Pak relationship will heal, especially after the last two weeks! I have many Indian friends, and we get on great! But the two countries just won't become buddy-buddy with each other just because a certain someone has come into power. Yes there may be some betterment, but that won't happen until Pakistan deals withs its Terrorists and India stops blaming us for even a leaf moving there. It would be great (and I am in favour of this) if the two nations could patch up, then they truly would be a super power! But that requires effort from both sides!
@Amara: Its ok lady , you can give that comment again , this time re-phrasing it and I assure you I will get the message.
Looking forward to see what non-citizens like you can say about the welfare of Pakistani politics.
@Awan Ji : . Couldn’t keep myself from grinning at that reference.. . Aap Ki Seva Mein. . Cheers
Express tribune, why haven't you posted my last comment which was for Asif Butt and Kulwant Singh???
PTI ka Junoooon....inna lillah e waa inna elahii raijounnnn
@Kulwant Singh:
Your comments are more than appreciated. Atleast there is someone from India who can give some postiive comments on developments in Pakistan.
PML_N has a strangle hold over the villages in the Punjab province which are a dominant force when it comes to voting, because of their numbers. If anyone is to beat PML-N in Punjab, they need to break this strangle-hold. Congratulations to PML-N for what seems to be a convincing victory. I can only encourage them to eliminate corruption within their party and manage the country with honesty and integrity.
Even if PTI comes in third ( which many predicted ) it will be a game changer on the political landscape.
Nawaz Sharif is a true statesman and I am happy that this Sher-e-Punjab might become Pakistan's Prime Minister opening a the new chapter of Indo-Pakistani friendship. Jai Ho!
Punjab/you have betrayed pakistan.naya KPK in the making
PML (N) is MQM of Punjab
@Thetruth: PML (N) is MQM of punjab...but more than this....proved
Considering his non experience in government, yet having brought hope to the youth of Pakistan, and done very well in KPK, is no small matter - well done Imran Khan!!! Sitting in the opposition, and governing in KPK will bring experience, the headaches of day-to-day governance in a vey complex province will prepare PTI in five years times, a test for a vision of Pakistan that would do well for the nation, or failure. The Sharif brothers face massive issues, an economy in shambles, power shortages, unemployment, terrorism towards which they have turned blind eyes in the Punjab and more... The grandiose projects that were announced during the campaign are not a solution, yet Nawaz Sharif has mentioned the dire straits the nation is suffering and offered to work with the opposition in his acceptance speech; certainly a good start.. Change it seems is in the air for which we thank Imran Khan. His campaign has brought awareness to another level altogether. Patience and humility are a virtue, learning from experience another.... For the sake of Pakistan's voters who have shown an unusual strength of character, coming out to vote in massive numbers in spite of the extremist threats and loss of life, let us hope it will be a lesson to the key stakeholders to deliver with positive socio economic policies, tax reforms, a well thought out strategy to end terrorism, and some control of rampant corruption.
@Naresh
"Elementary, my dear Watson!!"
Couldn't keep myself from grinning at that reference..
Again Imran khaan couldnt make. He won in KP, but Punjab and Sindh not much. So It is clear that in South Asia you can get votes only if you have huge number of party workers and have solid base. Money plays a huge role always. No magic No Charishma, no Movement can win you elections. This is sad situation for people who want to enter into politics. Politics is not a kick start game ! but,,,, in democracy Whatever Janta (Quom) does, is right. Congratulations Pakistan !
The ECP was clearly siding with Nooras. If they would have forced the overseas Pakistani vote to completion then the things would have been quite different. If you see the geographic forums then huge online support for IK is out of Pakistan with GCC and London being major areas. By keeping this population out of electoral through topi dramas , ECP only ensured better chances for N. Congrats to them for conducting elections but not fair by keeping overseas Pakistani nationals out of it.
@John the Baptist: Well truth did bite did it not - even in Lahore. Your leadership has shown much more grace than you will ever have.
To many tabdeeli razakar crybabies on social media now. I voted for bat and I'm satisfied with the result. PTI is now the second-largest party in the country, the provincial government in KPK and above all was able to convince millions of first-timers (myself included) to come out and vote for an ideology - and all this in their FIRST general elections ever, that's a huge achievement whichever way you look at it. PTI supporters need to stop having unrealistically sky-high expectations that will inevitably leave them disappointed (social media has hyped it way out of proportion).
I was always skeptical when IK and social media touted that he will clean-sweep PML-N in Punjab, there was a million of one chance of that happening to begin with - even without the alleged rigging, I thought at most PTI could have closed the margin by which PML-N won in urban Punjab.
Punjabi vote takes Pakistan to status quo.
It's interesting about Balochistan, which has clearly rejected all National parties and voted for nationalist parties.
Not a single seat has been won by national parties.
Compare this to Kashmir, where Congress or NC always manages a good number of seats.
I dont see the drive coming out of PML N guys unfortunately. PTI sure inexperienced but some of the matter they had could have been extreamly good to make economic decisions. But lets just hope PML N & PTI perform team work to get pakistan out of the mess. This is more important and no doubt Today Allhumdulilah is a NAYA PAKISTAN. My prayers for those hard workers in PML N & PTI. And for the corrupt ones i guess they will not find room for error because PTI is watching you very closely.
@Green Tiger: I am an Indian and did not have any favorites in this. I also have disagreed with you on many things but I can understand your pain. Keep faith. Democracy can throw surprises. You have to keep at it. For the last 10 years the party I favor has not been in power in India. That is okay. Accept the people's verdict. PTI will form a government in KPK. Democracy is a 5 day match not 20 20. Have faith in institutions rather than individuals.
Take care my friend.
PTI fans are a sorry and hopeless lot. I voted for PTI too but I am sick of this immaturity that these 'fans' so often display. Before the elections, it was about sweeping the nation and tall claims were made out of naivety and delusion. And now when another party has won, calling our own people stupid and what not. Shame on you PTI supporters. Have some dignity. I wish Imran would've won but people who believe in ideas never lose hope and we all know he won't give up.
However, this should teach all the newly charged youth to keep your feet on the ground, read some history, get rid of this cosmetic and self righteous nationalism and understand how your country works. Painting a PTI flag on your face, shouting slogans wherever you can and facebook and twitter groups badmouthing every other party and making their presence felt doesn't guarantee success or mean 'change has come.' It's your attitude that needs a change first and foremost. Now be calm, and accept defeat with some grace.
The results shows that the common man support the views of Nawaj Sarif specically his views regarding relationship with India.My dear Pakistani brothers and sisters it is in the intrest of both India and Pakistan if we have good relationship our countries have not achieved anything by fighting three wars we only lost enormous things. We are neighbours and must support each other to develop our countries instead of fighting, and one thing more the common people of the two countries love each other it is the political leaders and religious fundamentalists on both sides who spread hatred we must respect each others religion and there will be no problem.Our forefathers have been living together peacefully for centuries have been sharing each others grief and happiness. I want to share that my daughter is settled in Norway and most of her best friends are Pakistani women and there family relations are very cordial they love each and visit each other on the birth days of their children hence if they can live happily together why cant we. Let us start a new chapter NORWAY,Seweden,Denmark are neighbours have no big armies live peacefully they do not require visa to visit each other we can also have same system so that we can enjoy food in Lahore khao gali visit Nankana sahib and u may visit Roza sarif sarhind and the Dargah of Salim Chisti at Ajmer those who migrated to Pakistan can meet the people of their villages where they were born. Dushmani da ki hai bhaven sham tak sau bana lao par milega ke apna kamana apna khana larai kion.
Congratulations Pakistan!!
You have achieved two things today.
1) You have selected a mature/sensible prime minister over bigots, liars and fools.
2) You have successfully become a democracy.
LOL! Tsunami......
The ugly head of feudalism rears its head again. Poor Pakistanis 5 years of sleeping behind the wheels!
I congratulate PTI for doing things the right way! I do think they have now raised a new sort public awareness and standards for accountability. I hope they give Nawaz a run for the money as opposition.
Polls are rigged America favors nawaz because Imran khan has a anti American attitude, clear for everyone nawaz prepared for this poll buying votes long ago
@Amara:
If u say that u were not born here and r not a citizen , then please kindly keep your lame political concerns to yourself.
You have no right to come here and start your pointless debates with Pakistani Citizens.
Indeed a sad day in the history of Pakistan. Pak people will suffer for another 5 years!
@Green Tiger: "There is always hope" -Aragon
Let me today Pakistan has lost and stupidity, ethnicity and brothery system has won. I pitty except kpk everywhere people have voted for narrow mindedness yoith sbdeducated class has lost.we will have five more years of a man who cant think beyond his anda paratha.
Enough of this nonsense.. IK lost in Lahore.. i cant take it anymore... Go to bed....
Interestingly, the PTI is just ahead of the PPP in the vote count. This is wrong evaluation. The number count of PPP is close to PTI is because of their traditional seats of interior Sind. There is no opposition at all for them so its all their show. Its all rigging in Sindh and this makes the count high for PPP in interior of Sind and MQM in Karachi & Hyderabad. Although they would win the seat if army is there in the polling stations but not with this count.
The immaturity of PTI trolls does not let them accept PMLN's Victory. With this approach, they will not be able to form a govt not even in KPK where they have majority!
@Lahori: pti does not know how to accept defeat graciously, democracy has spoken :)
@Amara: I do agree with u. It is not only in pakistan we INDIAN r also doing the same
Congratulations to Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif and Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and to all PML(N) leaders and political workers on winning election 2013 with great victory.
I am sure that under the leadership of Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan is going to complete its incomplete goals this time.
May Al-Mighty Allah be with you. Ameen.
@Rahul: No... Seat creation is based on population n punjab makes 55% of pak population. So thats correct
(POSTING AGAIN DUE TO SOME ERRORS)
@JOJO, @Ch. Allah Daad and Antanu. First of all I wasn’t born in pakistan so I'm not a citizen, so in reality it doesn’t matter to me who becomes the PM but because I have family there I care about Pakistan and that's why I want the conditions to improve!
“Political parties have done no damage to Pakistan.” – This statement is the biggest joke ever, so you expect me to believe that no political party has ever done damage. If I were to believe you for a minute then can you tell me what these political parties have done to solve problems in Pakistan caused by these other forces!! Bomb blasts still happen, there is poverty and unemployment. Is there any justice in Pakistan?
Also my Blind leading the blind statement is in reference to the fact that these people have forgotten the many years when these various parties were in power and there was no benefit or improvements, yet they continue to follow them. Just like the lady who lost her son during the Liaquat Bagh incident and is still voting for PPP.
Punjab is going to Nawaz.. And Sindh seems to be tilting towards PPP, which i thought will be going for PTI. Only KP is coming to PTI. Very Very Sad. This is utter nonsense.
Now am confident, Pakistani`s are the most stupid people on earth and even Allah will not save Pakistan. The problem with IK was that he really never showed PTI as a far right islamic party but only showed some right wing leaning. Lots of votes have been lost. People who vote massively are the masses, not the blog writers sitting in the AC Rooms.
If PTI doesn
t win this time, even with the sympathy vote for IK *falling from the stage), he never ever win and become Prime minister. And ofcourse, Pakistani
s dont deserve IK as a Prime Minsiter. This is the sad tearful truth.I congratulate the nation for turning out to vote and good luck to PML N. hopefully PML N will realize from the vote bank of PTI that change is coming and if they don't get it right this time, they will not be forgiven. Lets rebuild our nation. It is the victory of democracy and defeat of the TTP.
@Rahul Ji: . You stated Food for thought – Shouldn’t the Smaller Provinces in Pakistan be given more seats than they have right now. Your National Assembly appears highly skewed in favor of just one State -Punjab (more than half of the seats belong to this province alone) . Aaj the becauj Pakistani Punjab has about 55% of Pakistan's Population! . Elementary, my dear Watson!! . Cheers
People actually forget that Nawaz's first term in office was the most progressive period in the last two decades and in the current economic environment I would rather vote for someone with experience even if he is alil corrupt and not absolutely corrupt. Unfortunately Imran Khan lost the attention of the mature public by his negative campaign. I could not vote for IK after listening to his speech taking credit for the World Cup rather than giving it to his team at the time. The hospital was a public effort made by donations from the public but he even used his World Cup speech as a propaganda tool for himself and his hospital rather than Pakistan and his cricket team colleagues. Imran needs to learn to be a team player as everything is not about HIM. Most of the people who were impressed by Imran were youngsters some of them maybe under 18. His views about getting rid of every problem in 90 days sounded very immature as he did not explain his plan or strategy and sounded too good to be true. Imran has no business or industrial experience. I think it is better for people to see Imran perform as an MNA and build confidence for the next election. Maybe he will come up with more realistic targets and timelines to become a future PM.
Area na51 Big mistake by Imran khan for giving farhat faheem the ticket. No one knows him, with no political experience. Ch Azeem was more deserving, mistakes likes these will cost pti huge. People have always respected ch Azeem and Javed ikhlas. it's great news Pervez Ashraf is out one less corrupt politician.
@Rahul I agreed sir,
Had pti won the comments section would be full of congrats! Accept defeat gracefully people Pti wins election is fair n pml n wins election is rigged.. This is democracy!
IK spoke about Nazria & ignoring the Bradari, yet the majority Pakistanis voted for the same individauls who lack the skill set to take Pakistan into future. This does not make sense. Does this mean we as a nation do not deserve IK?
Food for thought - Shouldn't the Smaller Provinces in Pakistan be given more seats than they have right now. Your National Assembly appears highly skewed in favor of just one State -Punjab (more than half of the seats belong to this province alone).
I think its over. There`s no hope for Pakistan. Very Sad...
@Hassan:
You are right. Total vote count is useless. No if seats is not determined by the total vote count.
No matter what the results are (though I wish PTI out), congratulations Pakistanis.
You have achieved something today. This a collective success of the entire country, including the hated army.
Good job.
Now that u r a functioning democracy, your next order is to turn pakistan into a secular republic. Good luck.
Lemme see whats on the menu for us (including chef spesial at #5): 1. 18 Hour load shedding & solar Lamps for the students 2. Yellow Cabs for the graduates 3. Dollar at 110 - 120 may be 4. Chief Minster Hamza Shahbaz (with all the due respect) 5. Road Roads Roads & More Roads & then some more roads
Did i miss something??? awwww yes!!! ... a quote from Gladiator "He'll bring them death & they'll love him for that"
"Dekho Dekho... kon aya...kon aya??? Shair aya Shair aya!!!"
@Hassan: Absolutely spot on. Pakistan does not have an Israel type proportional representation system so Vote percentage is meaningless.
PTI is neck to neck with PPP! How can this be possible?
I am doubting ET sources.
This is useless statistics because we all know that total vote count does not matter at the end. It is the number of seats you have. For example, PML N is likely winning by big margins in Lahore, hence the higher vote count.
@COE
oh come on sir!!! one polling booth does not a million votes make :p you can hardly blame saad rafique for ALL these votes... you forget, PML N still enjoys heady support amongst the rural areas and the businessmen etc... I would dare say most of these votes are legit. Sure, there's been rigging, but nothing like 2008. Much better this time around. IA, by the next elections, things will have been largely sorted out.
@wow:
Because this system is rigged!!! Reject Democracy Work for Khilafat!
@Ch. Allah Daad: i hope u will get a yellow cab, a laptop, a solar panel, a chunk of bullet train bridge, a chunk of metro bus, admission in danish school, some sasti roti tanoors and chunk of other inane , useless projects ...because u have tirelessly supported the lions over the past few months...(sarcasm)
@Amara: Pakistan is doomed with such callous approach of its citizen....they want statusquo and it is there.
@Amara: Perhaps you don't know anything about Pakistan. Political parties have done no damage to Pakistan. There are other forces which have destroyed Pakistan and unfortunatley Imran could not distance himself from those forces. I wish he learns the lesson.
The Blind leading the Blind. How can people even vote for parties that have already come in power and destroyed Pakistan????
THIS IS NO LOGIC, U EITHER VOTE OR DONT VOTE OR INVALIDATE UR VOTE.
This is good PTI for social issues and PML-N for economic issues!
PTI trailing far behind so far. Feeling really bad for Imran Khan.
@ Lahori, right here, watching things unfold. You celebrate for 1 night, cry for 5 years.
ET, you are such a valiant servant--you will continue to blow the PMLN trumpet against all odds. Sadly truth will bite shortly. Wakey wakey time!
HAAN Where are you PTIs???????????????????????????????????
as expected ET rooting for PML-N......O bhai jaan deyo..... counting only Lahore votes I believe....this is national election not Lahore election....
Ok... so no tsunami in cities. Rural areas? Forget it!
The Blind leading the Blind. How can people even vote for parties that have already come in power and destroyed Pakistan????
Thus makes absolutely no sense. How can ppp and PTI be neck and neck?
Thank you Saad Rafique.
