Four security guards of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ayla Malik were injured on Friday when unidentified men opened fire on her convoy in Mianwali, media reports say.

“This was an attempt to kill me and my security guards,” Malik told broadcast journalists after the attack. “Even though I am not hurt, I would still ask the authorities to provide me security.”

She pointed out that two of her guards were seriously wounded and that she had to transport them to hospital herself.

Caretaker Chief Minister Najam Sethi has taken notice of the incident and has asked the inspector general of police in Punjab to submit a report. Sethi also called for immediate arrest of the assailants.
