This has halted the movements of pilgrims via Zero Point, a trade gateway between the two countries at the Taftan area of Chaghai district.
A Levies official told APP that on the directives of the home department, the trade gate between Pakistan and India has also been shut. He said that the influx of pilgrims was making it difficult for the Pakistani government to ensure security, particularly during the days leading up to the general elections.
The border is scheduled to be reopened on May 12 once the election process is finalised, he added.
The closure of the route in the past has created difficulties for people living along the border whose livelihood depends on the bilateral trade that takes place through the Zero-point.
