Clampdown: Tax recovery drive gaining speed

The Excise and Taxation Department Sindh has recovered a sum of Rs2.5 million as motor vehicle tax during a five-day recovery drive. An official of the Department said here on Wednesday that as many as 7,000 vehicles were checked during the period and that about 6,000 vehicles were impounded whereas papers of nearly 1,000 vehicles were seized.


The official said that the Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation, Syed Shabbar Zaidi, has appreciated the efforts of the staff in this direction.

The minister also asked the department to continue the drive against such defaulters, the official further added. The exercise is part of a wider tax recovery drive by the government as it attempts to clamp down on defaulters and widen the tax base.
