Wheat procurement in Rawalpindi and Attock districts will begin on Sunday (today), said deputy director food, Rawalpindi division on Saturday.
He said that bardana (gunny bags) was earlier distributed among growers on May 1.
The wheat will be purchased at procurement centres at Rs1,200 per 40 kg and additional delivery charges of Rs7.50 would be made on each 100 kg bags, he said.
The deputy director food said that the Punjab government has set the procurement target at 50,000 metric tones wheat .
He said that payments to growers will be made through bank accounts and no cash payment would be made by any official of the food department.
The official said that no official of the department would be allowed to ask from any farmer to provide export quality wheat.
“The wheat would be purchased directly from the growers and no role of the ‘middleman’ or ‘broker’ would be accepted,” he said.
