Project complete: Gomal Zam Powerhouse ready

USAID had provided $40 million for the dam.

ISLAMABAD: The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has completed the 17.4 megawatt (MW) Gomal Zam Powerhouse - a component of the Gomal Zam Dam Project and it will start supply electricity to the national grid shortly official sources said. The powerhouse is currently on test run, Wapda officials said. Located in South Waziristan Agency, the Gomal Zam Dam is the first mega project in water sector in the tribal areas. USAID had provided $40 million for the dam and the powerhouse and another $40 million are also being provided for the irrigation system. The dam was completed last year.
