PESHAWAR:

Four vehicles were damaged when an explosive device went off near a car showroom in University Town late Monday night.

The police said unidentified militants planted a bomb near Taj Motors which exploded around midnight. The blast damaged four vehicles parked in the showroom owned by Imranullah, a resident of Landi Kotal. They added a mortar shell had been used in the attack.

“The mortar shell had been attached to a detonator, turning it into a time device,” said a police official, confirming no one was harmed in the attack. The police believe the medium-intensity bomb was meant to stir panic among people.

Bomb defused

The bomb disposal squad (BDS) defused a low-intensity bomb planted near a house in Gulshanabad, Mattani on Tuesday.

The house belonged to Yaqoob, who informed the police after spotting the explosive device. Following this, the BDS was called in and neutralised the bomb.

“It was a small device, weighing around 800 grammes, and had been planted near the boundary wall of the house,” said a local police official, adding investigation is underway. He said Yaqoob had a dispute with his sons and they are looking into it.

The device spread panic among the people in the area who recently witnessed a bomb blast in Mattani Bazaar on April 13.
