MIRANSHAH: A tribesman was killed and 20 others, including children, were severely injured when rockets and shells landed on houses. The bombardment took place as clashes erupted between militants and security forces in Miranshah, North Waziristan Agency on Wednesday. Fighting was initiated after unidentified assailants opened fire at Amin check post, which is manned by security personnel. However, both military and militants reported no casualties. The injured could not be shifted to the Agency Headquarters Hospital due to an ongoing curfew. Two girls (minors) were injured when a shell hit the house of a local journalist, Haji Pazir Gul. Azmatullah was injured by a rocket; he later succumbed to his injuries. Several houses were damaged in the crossfire in Sarai Darpa Khel, Miranshah, as gunship helicopters fired shells. At this point, tribal elders made appeals from mosques to security forces and militants for a ceasefire to avoid further human loss. Heavy gun fire lasted for more than two hours.
