LAHORE: The Rescue 1122 Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer said on Sunday that effective steps needed to be taken to prevent the increasing number of road accidents in Pakistan. Dr Naseer was presiding over a meeting organised by Safe Communities Pakistan (SCP). Dr Naseer said a safe community is the one ready to respond to accidents and disasters. He added that SCP President Muhammad Sarwar, the first Muslim member of the British Parliament, had a special interest in establishing safe communities in Pakistan. He suggested that there should be a plan to make stickers, banners and model parks in order to make children aware of traffic safety. Dr Naseer said that the alarming increase in the number of avoidable emergencies particularly road accidents necessitated the need to launch the Community Safety Programme. Talking about the issue of proper licensing, he said only 40 per cent of drivers had licences according to data obtained by Rescue 1122 in a study on driver behaviour.
