QUETTA/ LAHORE:

Two key politicians from Balochistan and South Punjab on Friday announced joining the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), uplifting the image of the party often taunted by rivals for being confined to central Punjab.

Jan Muhammad Jamali from Balochistan and Sardar Jaffar Khan Leghari from South Punjab announced they had joined the PML-N. Leghari’s wife, Mena Leghari, also followed suit.

After joining hands with the 10-party alliance in Sindh, the PML-N, with the latest recruits, appears to be dispelling the notion of remaining underrepresented from other parts of the country including Balochistan and South Punjab.

Former chief minister of Balochistan and deputy chairman senate Jan Muhammad Jamali while revealing his decision at his residence, stated that the law and order situation in Balochistan was at its worst and needed special attention.

He blamed the former government for not fulfilling its duties and ‘wasting’ the money meant to be spent on Balochistan. “The assassination of Nawab Akbar Bugti and dead bodies of young men being recovered remains the main cause of unrest in the province,” he explained.

Praising PML-N’s move to join hands with nationalist parties in Balochistan, the former Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid leader said that PML-N was aware of the provincial problems and would play a vital role in bringing stability to the province. “Our future is in parliamentary politics and we are trying that all the factions of Muslim League unite,” he said, adding, “We have no room for mistakes now; we need to unite in order to remove the sense of alienation being felt by the people of Balochistan”.

President of the PML-N Balochistan chapter Nawab Sanaullah Zehri, welcoming Jamali into the party fold, said that the PML-N would now aim at ‘bringing together all the friends’.

Meanwhile, PML-Q’s former MNA from NA 174 (Rajanpur) Sardar Jaffar Khan Leghari along with his wife, Mena Leghari, also made the announcement of jumping ship.

The PML-N leadership has revealed that Leghari will contest the elections from Rajanpur as their candidate. Leghari has previously held the position of district chairman twice; he has also been elected as MNA thrice and MPA for the same number of time.

The PML-N has also cleared the ex-PML-Q leader for contesting two provincial assembly seats, PP-247 and PP-248. Leghari has offered Shahbaz Sharif to contest the elections from PP-247 which falls in the area under his stronghold.
