This saw senior PPP leader and former federal minister for religious affairs Syed Khursheed Shah travel to Mirpurkhas and meet with the with the former Sindh chief minister at Mari house on Friday.
This was the first serious overture by the PPP to Rahim. After discussing matters behind closed doors, both leaders told the media that they were opening the door for dialogues as a first step in thawing relations. They said they discussed their respective reservations on candidates and seat adjustment in the Mirpurkhhas division.
Shah said that PPP government during their fiver year tenure secured many successes but had also committed many mistakes. He added that the party has not taken a final decision on the ticket for NA 226 Mirpurkhas I.
Rahim, who was struck by a shoe hurled by a PPP supporter when he was still the Sindh chief minister, revealed that the PPP never made any contact during his five years of exile. The PML-likeminded chief said he had put forward some demands before Shah. Provided these demands were fulfilled, his party would consider supporting PPP candidates.
Rahim, who only recently returned from a self-imposed exile, discussed elections on NA-228 Umerkot with the PPP leader. NA-228 is also being contested by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
