PESHAWAR:

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) local leader from Swabi, Asad Zaman, on Wednesday announced his decision to part ways with the party over ticket allotments and join the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

A member of a local influential family and JUI-F’s senior vice president for Lahor tehsil, Zaman, developed differences with the party over the ticket for PK-34, Swabi-IV. He had contested the 2008 elections from the constituency as an independent candidate and later joined JUI-F.

After the JUI-F decided not to award Zaman the ticket, he resigned and joined the PPP, which has awarded him a party ticket. The PPP had initially allotted this ticket to Mohammad Naeem Khan, who is also contesting from NA-13. But Khan decided to withdraw his nomination in favour of Zaman.

PPP’s provincial deputy information secretary Gohar Inqilabi said the party had requested Naeem Khan to withdraw from PK-34 for Zaman and there was no disagreement over the suggestion.

Talking to reporters at the Peshawar Press Club, Zaman said cracks have developed within JUI-F’s ranks in Swabi following the seat adjustment agreement with Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao’s Qaumi Watan Party.
