“I can’t imagine the Munna Bhai series without Sanjay Dutt. Unfortunately, things are not in our hands. I feel the punishment is very harsh. I am as surprised as you all are with this news,” Kapoor told IANS.
The first two films — Munna Bhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munna Bhai — were directed by Rajkumar Hirani and there is still to be a definite word on who will direct the third film. However, now with Sanjay’s conviction, progress on the film is yet to be decided.
“I will have to speak to the producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra about it. I can’t take a call on that. In the next two days, we will have a chat and discuss what needs to be done,” he said. “We have not started shooting our film yet, but just imagine what other producers and directors who have done films half-way with him, are feeling.”

Celebrities have higher responsibilities when compliance to law is concerned. They should not only be following law to the last dot, but also be appearing to be following law..by displaying extra bit to public. Instead, Indian film celebrities freely break law and demand sympathy, immunity..pardon , even for serious crimes like gun running, terror connection, homicide crimes in car accidents, killing of endangered species etc. Trials for film celebrities should be done by fast court and conviction done speedily , this will set examples for all celebrities in future to follow law .
The producers and directors who have a half made film knew the risk they were taking when they hired Dutt. After all he had been convicted by High court and was out on bail while the appeal was being decided in Supreme court.
As far as the punishment being harsh, he was not charged under TADA or the punishment or he would have been much more. 5 years was the minimum punishment possible for his crime and he has been given credit for the 18 months he has already served - so he will serve only an incremental 42 months.
