ISLAMABAD:

A two-member bench of the Supreme Court directed the speaker of the Balochistan Assembly, Syed Matiullah Agha, on Thursday to provide details that former opposition leader Nawabzada Tariq Magsi ever sat on the treasury benches.

Justices Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and Sarmad Jalal Osmany directed Agha to provide documented records showing the opposition leader attended the treasury seats in the assembly.

The speaker had challenged the March 19 order of the Balochistan High Court, declaring Magsi as opposition leader and set aside the speaker’s notification announcing Maulana Abdul Wasay as opposition leader on February 21, 2013.

The petitioner has maintained that Magsi never attended the opposition benches for five years and his notification as opposition leader by former speaker Aslam Bhootani was undone after he was removed through a no-confidence move.

Agha had stated before the SC that two rulings were made against the actions of the former speaker and the notification about Magsi was issued when Bhootani was on tour.
