Like the previous year, Pakistan finished last in the hockey tournament.
Despite the humid conditions, both the teams played aggressively from the beginning and did not hold back.
Pakistan took the lead in the eight minute, off a penalty corner, when Muhammad Imran maneuvered the ball past the opponent’s keeper.
India hit back in the 16th minute as Rupinder Pal Singh used the penalty corner in his team’s favour.
India then took the lead and scored their second with the help of Akashdeep Singh. The team went 3-1 up in the 43rd minute as Malak Singh deflected the ball past Imran.
Pakistan reduced the deficit three minutes later, making a comeback.
India, however, were awarded a penalty stroke in the 62nd minute which was duly utilised by Rupinder Pal, who has scored six goals in the tournament.

Both India and Pakistan have fallen way behind even Asian teams like South Korea and Malaysia, not to speak of second tier teams such as Britain and Argentina which we used to wallop not too long ago. In terms of training, technology, strategizing etc, these teams are catching up with Australia, Germany, Netherlands..the giants of the game, We lack resources, technology, and most of all focus and determination to regain our top position. We are also handicapped by being physically smaller although that can be overcome to an extent by skill and training. We have a long hard road ahead to stay even in the top 10 where eventually teams such as Canada and Japan will get in, the way NZ has. I see no point in crowing about how India beat Pakistan etc; both have plenty of work cut out for them.
What a pity to come to this. The only glory these two nations who were once powerhouses of the game of hockey now only are concerned with defeating one another and news papers of either countrey also revel in writing about it. India and Pakistan teams are satisfied with this and seem to have given up on rising to the top of hockey tournaments.
Well done team in green and hats off to the coach and players for bringing such a big laurel for the country. Keep it up....sad day for the people and fan of Pakistan

India-Pakistan hockey matches always make for delightful viewing, but (sadly) are Malaysia and S Korea the new `Asian hockey giants'??

Consolation win for India but importantly beat Pakistan twice.. However considering that India had fielded an all junior team, it was a good effort as they ran close with Australia, South Korea and drew with finalist Malaysia who was awarded a controversial penalty stroke otherwise India should have won this game.
Indian Hockey Team now should look beyond Pakistan. We know you can beat Pakistan comprehensively like in other fields. India should aim for the number one slot.
