Play grounds and trained staff are as important for an academic institution as modern technology is, says Husain.

FAISALABAD:

The Annual Sports Gala and 11th Athletics Meet at the Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) started on Tuesday.

The gala includes short put, races, long jumps, wrestling, tug-of-war and distance throw.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Vice Chancellor Zakir Husain. Stressing the need for promoting sports and sportsmanship among the youth, the VC urged students to participate in such events. He said the interest in participating in sports activities was declining among the youth. This, he added, may be partly because of changing life styles and routines. He said play grounds and trained staff were as important for an academic institution as modern technology was.

Sports Board Chairman Hafeezur Rehman Tahir Taunsvi , Sports Director Rafique Wahla, deans of several departments and members of management committees Dr Umair Bajwa, Dr Iftikhar Bukhari, Dr Sofia Anwar and Dr Nighat Bhatti were also present.

The event will end on Wednesday (today).
