Although the West Indies have lost the series, they are keen to return home with a respectable margin as they face Australia in their fourth One-Day International (ODI) today in Sydney.

The tourists, who are already feeling out of their depth, have an added worry in the form of an unfit Chris Gayle who might be ruled out of the match.

Meanwhile, George Bailey of Australia is also doubtful for the clash. However, coach Mickey Arthur is confident that his team will not let go of their good form at this stage.

“It’s been a tough old summer for us,” said Arthur. “In terms of our one-day cricket we’ve been a little bit topsy-turvy and we’ve got some good momentum now so certainly we’re not going to take the foot off the pedal.”

Faulkner fined for Gayle clash

Meanwhile, Australia seamer James Faulkner was fined 10 per cent of his match fee after an ugly clash with Gayle during the home side’s 39-run win in the third ODI in Canberra.

Faulkner finished with four wickets, one of those being the dangerous Gayle who was out for two off the first ball of the 38th over. But he was warned by the umpire for his over-zealous sending off of the batsman.

The International Cricket Council said that Faulkner was found to have breached the code of conduct which relates to ‘using language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an international match’. After the match, Faulkner pleaded guilty to the charge and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee, Ranjan Madugalle.

“There is no place for this type of behaviour anywhere near the game,” said Madugalle. “The players are expected to respect the opponents all the time. In this particular incident, Faulkner crossed the line and I’m sure he will learn from this incident.”
