Street justice: Protesters attack police over ‘delay’ in FIR registration

Sohrab Goth police found to their cost that delaying the registration of an FIR could be a risky business. After friends and relatives of a young driver, who was shot dead by unidentified men in Quetta Town, failed to get an FIR of the incident registered, some of them broke into the police station. The protesters set a police mobile, two private cars and two motorcycles on fire. Law enforcers were forced to use teargas shells and aerial firing to disperse the protestors.

Mohammad Hassan Mohmand and his companion Lal Mohammad, were allegedly taken hostage by a group of five armed men late on Sunday. Later on, police found Mohmand’s body while Mohammad returned home safely. The family went to the Sohrab Goth police station and demanded that officials register an FIR. They claimed that they only resorted to violence after the authorities didn’t listen. However, DSP Qamar Ahmed claimed that a murder case had been registered on the family’s complaint.
