Cross-border tensions on the Line of Control (LoC) have eased after talks between India and Pakistan, but it is “too early” for India to normalise relations with its western neighbour, Indian Defence Minister AK Anthony was quoted by the Press Trust of India (PTI) on Wednesday.
According to the report, Anthony said that infiltration attempts from Pakistan into India are continuing despite extreme weather. “If this is the case now, what will be the position (of infiltration) in summers?” he was quoted as saying.
He added, “We have to cross our fingers and after the tragic and inhuman incident, even though Pakistan has assured us certain things, we have to see how this assurance translates into action.”
The minister also said that India should wait and watch and “assess the ground situation,” and assured that no hasty decision will be taken regarding a future course of action.
Tensions between India and Pakistan were heightened earlier this month after a series of cross-border exchanges in the disputed Kashmir region where in which five soldiers were killed on both sides. India claims that one of its soldiers was beheaded.
Firing and small skirmishes are common along the 740km LoC despite a ceasefire that was agreed in 2003. The Indian army says eight of its soldiers were killed in 2012, in 75 incidents of ceasefire violations.

Their per capita income is now 1st time in history really more than pakistan but mere 300 dollars more per capita,but less than 45500/capita than USA forget usa it is less than 4000 percapita than china and less than 12000/ capita than russia or turkey also.it is extremely poor with 80 percent less than 2 dollars per day.their economic growth has created rich [people but on the bottom side their poor are much more poor than even the pooreset of the poor in pakistan. go to thier cities and you will see that level poverty which only exists now in some very poor african countries. their history is so humilating so they have inferiority complex and pretend to be a SUPER POWER:)

However, it should come with no nonsense at Borders, LOC and across the borders terrorist activities. When will India try to stop fooling people. They tried to blame the Pakistan Government for the Mumbai disaster, and seemed to get a great deal of pleasure out of doing so. Little mention is made of Mr. David Headley, who, it is said worked for the US DEA/CIA, and master minded the 26/11 Mumbai attack. Mr. Headley, who left Mumbai within hours of the terrorist attack has been charged with some kind of terrorist activity by the US, and has agreed to a plea bargain in return for lenient treatment. Unfortunately, Mr. Headely has been given little mention in the Indian media. We will know better on January 24 what Mr. Headley’s punishment in the US will be, but in return for his plea bargain he will escape the death sentence and will not be sent to India for trial or punishment. Further, although India quite rightly, made a big fuss over executing Ajmal Kesab, for the 2008 Mumbai attack, the Indian media and RAW have been very quiet over Mr. David Headley. It is starting to look, with a reasonable degree of certainty, that there has been a US/Indian intelligence cover-up, and one can only guess what caused the four year Indian media reporting lapse. It appears that India has hidden agendas. India should get over its LoC hangups and learn how to make friends with Pakistan

Too early? No. I think it's been 6 years since the Samjhota Express was set on fire, a few days since India waged an unprovoked attack at the LoC, over six decades since they illegally occupied Kashmir, over four decades since they separated East Pakistan, over one decade since they have systematically been working to block all of Pakistan's water, almost a decade since it's been training and sending over terrorists to Balochistan, Karachi, KP and FATA region. I think it's time all of it stopped. I do not think it is too early.
India is just trying to prove her self as a super power in Asia, but it would destroy her image in the sense that other countries are gathering to oppose her will. As China is making its place on the globe and she is trying to establish good relations with her neighbors. so we hope for good as India never have good relations with her any neighbor country.

@janan: Why did Pakistan not use their superior air force when their troops were taking a hammering? Either their air force was afraid OR Pakistan knew that their troops were on the wrong side and use of air force would have led to all ou war. Obviuoly Pakistan did not want to risk it. Use of nuclear weapons would have caused major damage in both countries but it is for you to decide who would get hurt more.
Pakistan could not keep East Pakistan, its own territory. It is failing to control another province of Baluchistan. And they are still dreaming to capture territory controlled by India - Kashmir. Very funny.
Pakistan must show the good will and close down the embassy in India. Furthermore, they should hand over former warrior of Kargil Gen Musharaf to India for keep.

@Obaid: I agree with you that Indian troops first entered Pakistan and attacked Pakistan soldiers. Indian intelligence uncovered Hafiz Saeed building up a force in AJK to attack Indian soldiers and hence the warning to Pakistan. The point I am making is that as long as Hafiz Saeed is not brought to justice, he and his handlers, the Pakistan Army, shall keep dreaming of conducting further terror activities in India and India will not tolerate any such acts. This minor escalation may actually go to save a full war.
Why do some in Pakistan say that talibans are working for India? It is because when the terrorists are not able to conduct terror activities outside Pakistan, they attack Pakistan itself. Pakistan wants to get rid of them by exporting them outside but others will not allow this. Hafiz Saeed is part of talibans and their likes, however much you may try to differentiate him from others.
They want Pk to be their permanent enemy, so be it. Keep living up with slums dear Inds, and keep spendings on military. Move on PK - leave them the way they like it.

FACTS. 1948, pakistan liberates half of Kashmir. 1965 war PAF shoots down 119 IAF aircrafts against 21 lost. Refer to BBC reporting of that time. Army occupies 1400 sq km of indian territory in rajasthan and chawinda and sialkot sector. 1971 bangladesh lost due bangalis involvement but what about western sector, indian army and airforce got the same beating. IAF losses 136 against 54. 11 destroyed by PAF itself in Bangladesh. WHAT a Victory

Pakistan army is not winning any wars, even if it fighting them. India last fought in 1999 and won.

Also recall that during Kargil war, President Clinton conveyed to India that it can pound Pakistan army all it can without crossing the border. India effectively closed the supply route for Pakistan army and almost all of its soldiers could not return back to Pakistan alive.
Nuclear threat is no longer effective and India is now concentrating on eliminating the terrorist threat from Pakistan. No war, just build up of force at the border and posturing, is what India will do.

@Romm: When US puts pressure on the western front, terror activities within Pakistan increase dramatically. It will be the same when India puts pressure on the eastern front. India does not need to go for a war. Only threat and posturing would cause serious bladder disorder for the Pakistan army. On the nukes, even if Pakistan has them, can they ever be able to bring it out of their silos. US drones will take care of these before it can be taken to the launching pad. You think that even China would allow Pakistan to take out its nukes. They would be one of the first to support any UN resolution to denuclearize Pakistan. India may have invested $2 billion in Afghanistan but China has invested more than $6 billion in Afghanistan and they would protect their investment. Here the Interests of China and India converges. Both, along with US and others, want to see a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan and also the elimination of all terror groups in Pakistan.

I believe, infiltration from Pakistan will lessen or even stop for some time. What India has done is that it has conveyed a strong message that it shall go to war if this is absolutely necessary. This has shaken Pakistan army. Now Pakistan army shall restrain Hafiz Saeed. As Hafiz Saeed and his allies cannot remain inactive, they shall increase their terror activities within Pakistan.
India understands only one language and I am sure we all know what that is. Don't let them breathe, the day you get them the breathing space, they'd roll you in Baluchistan, FATA, LOC. We must leave this 'aman ka tamasha'.

The Indian Defence minister is spot on in his comments. Pakistan had made several commitments not to violate LoC in the past but the same have never been honored. Indian patience is now running out and it might have to take some hard decisions for Pakistan to think twice before it sends terrorists across the border.
