KARACHI: Following the imposition of governor rule in Balochistan, the Pakistan Muslim League - Functional (PML-F) has asked Sindh chief minister Qaim Ali Shah to step down.

At a press conference at Raja House, the residence of Pir Pagara, PML-F general secretary Sindh Imtiaz Shaikh said that the provincial government has failed to control target killings, extortions in Karachi.

“Everyday around a dozen people are being killed in Karachi and kidnappings for ransom have exceeded its past record in rural Sindh,” he said. “The chief minister claims, however, that everything is okay.” PML-F will soon release a white paper on the performance of the chief minister.

An influential man from Jacobabad district, Raja Khan Jakhrani, also announced on Monday that he will join the party. With Jakhrani standing by his side, Shaikh pointed out that the army and Frontier Constabulary are missing from voters’ verification. “We have serious reservation on this issue. This shows incompetence on part of the election commission.” Referring to those who are thinking of dividing Sindh, Shaikh said that “Sindh is not a cake that can be split into pieces.”

The PML-F decided in principle to oppose the local governance act. “The Pakistan Peoples Party promulgated the ordinance just to appease a party and did not take all parties into confidence,” he said.

Shaikh offered his support to Minhajul Quran’s leader Tahirul Qadri on his long march. Nevertheless, he added that the PML-F will not support any unconstitutional steps or delays in the upcoming elections.
