KOHISTAN:

The Kohistan police have arrested another accused of the triple murder case from Gilgit, DPO Kohistan Akbar Ali said on Wednesday.

The arrested man, identified as Jehangir, was hiding in Gilgit from where he was picked by the Kohistan police with the help of Gilgit law enforcement agencies, DPO Ali told reporters.

The police have already arrested four of the total 12 accused namely Molvi Javed, head of the controversial jirga, Molvi Noorul Haq, Sabeer Khan and Mosam Khan from Hasan Abadal.

They were charged in the FIR lodged with Palas police station on January 3, for the murder of three brothers Rafiud Din, Shah Faisal and Sher Wali in Gadaar village.

The deceased were the real brothers of Gul Nazar and Bin Yasir who appeared in a cellphone video dancing at a wedding, while four women clapped and sang.

Since mingling with men was against the customs of Kohistan, a jirga held in May last year headed by Molvi Javed, who also runs a seminary in Mansehra, condemned the four women and the two boys to death.

The women were allegedly killed on May 31, while the boys made their escape from the area. The Supreme Court took suo moto notice when the matter was flashed in the press. The case was disposed of on June 20, when a fact finding mission declared that all the women were alive.

The murder of three brothers of the condemned boys has again brought the issue to limelight. Afzal Kohistani, a brother of the slain men said they were killed by the Azadkhel tribe that had already put to death their condemned women on the orders of the jirga.

Meanwhile, the police have registered FIR against 12 persons of the Azadkhel tribe and arrested five accused while raids were continuing for the other men named in the report.

The fact finding mission seems to have been only joy riding helicopters and enjoying the scenic beauty of Kohistan in the summer of 2012. The incompetent Mission also needs to be sorted out.
