Balochistan unrest: Three dead in attack on LPG carriers

Two tankers carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) were ambushed by alleged guerrillas on the Taftan-Quetta highway, Levies officials said.


Three crew members were killed and one was injured when unidentified assailants let loose a hail of bullets on the tankers carrying a highly explosive cargo.

The tankers hauling LPG from the Iranian border town of Taftan to supply local markets in Balochistan were attacked near Sheikh Wasil area, some 60 kilometres away from Quetta.

“The deceased and the injured belong to Punjab,” a Levies official said. The deceased have been identified as Khalid Hussain, Mehoob Hassan and Muhammad Zubair while the injured was identified as Khuda-e-Noor.

A case has been registered against unidentified people and investigations are under way. No group had claimed responsibility for the attack on the LPG tanker till the filing of this report.

Separately, two people were killed and another wounded in Pishin, some 40km from Quetta.

Levies sources said that a vehicle was passing from Pishin Bypass when gunmen sprayed bullets on the vehicle, killing Najeebullah on the spot and injuring Asmatullah and Zainullah.

The injured were shifted to a hospital where one of the injured persons succumbed to his injuries.
