Military official said that the officials were travelling via bus from Rawalpindi to their stations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They led off seven soldiers but let go a sweeper who was travelling with them.
The gunmen were wearing military uniforms, other sources said.
There were no immediate claims of responsibility by the Taliban, who do maintain forces in the area.
Last week the Taliban kidnapped 23 pro-government Levies forces following raids on at least three check posts. Of them, the Taliban executed 21. One man escaped and another was badly wounded – he later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

@Raj - USA: you have been paid to suggest that,USA/UK/NATO/India has this life time dream to come true
i dont know army is waiting for whom to launcg operation against militatnts.the only way to deal with them is force.
Let us pray to Allah to protect our men from these kaffirs.
Completely misleading and meaningless headline ... Regarding soldiers its sad but true ... and for the government its just a number ... 35000 killed will be 35000 plus 7...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA.....Pakistan is my favourite entertainment channel....
@numbersnumbers: Nice try.
Pakistan's army cannot fight these terrorists alone. They should ask US and NATO forces to wipe out all factions of talibans before they leave. Pakistan army must establish trust that they are sincere and US and NATO forces can work with them in joint operations. Pakistan army should give free hand to US and NATO forces to operate within Pakistan for 1 - 2 years and wipe out both Afghan and Pakistan talibans. After US and NATO forces vacate the region, Pakistan shall be facing even more severe problems. All factions of talibans may join together and take over Pakistan.
Do I qualify for abduction too? Once I had one week training in civil defence.
@FJ: It more likely that these soldiers are not issued weapons when traveling to and from their bases when not actually on duty. As a result, they have nothing to fight with against armed militants!
This won't end until either the militants have killed everyone who opposes them, or the people of Pakistan finally have enough and stop accepting savagery just because its done in the name of Islam. Even money right now as to which option is chosen.
It is time for army to do action go into NWA! NOWWWWW!!!! Save these men or at least try to save, stop being sitting ducks !
Why don't these soldiers FIGHT with their abductors then being abducted so easily. They are not the civilians, for God sake!
where is our military that eats away majority of our revenues.
The poor souls are now at the mercy of these disgusting animals, while the entire nation is going to look the other way. How can we hope for better days when we have shunned our morality
Even our soldiers need protection.
The solution lies in recruiting the militants in army and send the soldiers into retirement, with full retirement benefit.
Let us negotiate and surrender to these jihadists while they butcher our youngmen. Still waiting for an army response in kind.
What Pakistan waiting for, or they let them go with their men ? I don't have words to condemn this as merely words are not enough to stop terrorism.
enough is enough ... there shud b a full scale a major operation to clear and finish off kharjis from our pure land.... these kharijis are maligining islam and destroying a muslim country ..and killing innocent muslims in Pakistan...
Time to launch a full scale operation and save these soldiers. Apparently the incident has happened in Punjab which is supposed to be a safer area. People of Pakistan should stand up against extremism. An eye should be kept on extremist people in their neighborhood and a hotline be set up.
May Allah have mercy upon Pakistan.
