Protest demo: G-B govt employees demand winter allowances

Say have not been paid the dues since last year.

Government officials of grade 17 and above are entitled to 45 kg firewood per day and officials of 16 grade and bellow are entitled to 23 kg firewood per day, from November 16 till March 15 every year.

Around 50 government employees held a protest demonstration outside their offices in Gilgit on Tuesday to press the government in paying them their winter allowances.


The protesting employees maintained that they were not paid their winter allowances last year and have not been paid the allowance for this year either.

Government officials in schools, hospitals and the local administration are entitled to the winter allowances to help them meet their heating expenses during the winter season. Government officials of grade 17 and above are entitled to 45 kg firewood per day and officials of 16 grade and bellow are entitled to 23 kg firewood per day, from November 16 till March 15 every year.

Janbaz Khan, the opposition leader in the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly criticised the government for failing to resolve public’s issues.

“The bank are empty of cash, corruption is alarmingly high, government employees are without pension and salaries and the law and order situation is getting poorer with each passing day,” he said during his address.
