KARACHI: The first day of the year in violence-riddled Karachi saw at least six people killed and bombs recovered from different parts of the city, Express News reported on Tuesday.

Four people, including one policeman were gunned down today.

The policeman was killed when unidentified men opened fire on him in the Metroville Site area.

Firing in Paposh Nagar, Lyari’s Agra Taj and Old Golimar areas killed three people. The person killed in Golimar was identified as 22-year-old Imran. The others could not be identified as yet.

In separate firing incidents, two more people were killed in the Mewa Shah and Ayub Goth areas.

Police and bomb disposal squad (BDS) officials were called to Orangi Town where a 2kg bomb was discovered. BDS officials disarmed the bomb.

A suspicious bag was found in the Sindh Secretariat and was taken out of the premises by the police as well.

Violence and unrest in the city has become a huge problem and authorities remain largely ineffective in dealing with it. In light of the same, some political parties have called for the deweaponisation of the city.
